ESPN’s Joe Lunardi Releases His Preseason Bracketology

Continuing the absurdity started by CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm on Monday with his release of preseason bracketology, Joey Brackets himself put out his first stab at bracketology on Wednesday. His bracket looks a little bit different than Palm’s. Friar fans may be a bit confused to see the ESPN bracket including them while CBS Sports’ did not.

Here are the notable Big East results from Lunardi’s bracket:

Villanova got a little more love from Lunardi as he put them as a 3 seed in Pittsburgh (East Region) while Palm had them as a 4 seed in Pittsburgh. Lunardi has them playing mid-major Wofford as a 14 seed. The next Big East team in the field for Lunardi is Georgetown as a 9 seed in Charlotte (East Region) against 8 seed Iowa. While Palm had the Hoyas as an 8 seed  he had them out in the West Region.

Here is where Lunardi really differs from Palm. The 3rd and final Big East team in the field of 68 is Providence. The Friars are Lunardi’s last team in the field joining Notre Dame, LSU and BYU in the “Last Four In” category. Providence is an 11 seed playing fellow 11 seed LSU in the “First Four” round for the right to face 6 seed Michigan State in Columbus (South Region) for the Second Round.

St. John’s is just on the wrong side of the bubble as the 2nd team of the “First Four Out” group while Xavier falls into the “Next Four Out” category.
