Joe Lunardi’s Monday bracket is out and he still has 6 teams in the field from the Big East. Xavier is on the bracket as an 8 seed but the Musketeers were moved down a line and swapped spots with Ole Miss due to principals and procedures rules as Xavier could have potentially met Butler in the Round of 32. That can’t happen because the principles and procedures document states “teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional semifinals (Sweet 16) if they played each other twice during the regular season and conference tournament.”

Here is a breakdown of Lunardi’s latest bracket:

• Villanova – #2 seed in East vs. #15 William & Mary – AQ for Big East
• Butler – #6 seed in West vs. #11 Illinois/UCLA
• Providence – #6 seed in Midwest vs. #11 Cincinnati
• Georgetown – #7 seed in South vs. #10 Temple
• Xavier – #8 seed in Midwest vs. #9 Dayton
• St. John’s – #10 seed in Midwest vs. #7 San Diego St

St. John’s moved from a 12 seed and part of the “Last 4 In” category on Thursday last week to a 10 seed this week while Butler and Georgetown dropped down 1 seed line each from where they fell in Lunardi’s last bracket update. Butler went from a 5 to a 6 and Georgetown dropped from a 6 to a 7. Villanova and Providence stayed on their same seed lines while Xavier jumped up to a 7 on the S-curve but as I explained above got moved down a line to an 8 for procedural reasons.
