Providence was among 10 teams to make 2016 PF Kevin Marfo‘s cut down list in mid-August. Marfo’s plan was to entertain all 10 of those schools and for each of them to present their case to the New Jersey native during visits to his school. The first day that could happen was September 9th when the recruiting period began and schools trekked to Worcester Academy to try to convince the powerful big man to buy their recruiting pitch. Marfo decided to cut his list down even further on Tuesday night to a final 5.
Adam Finkelstein tweeted out the list that was provided by Worcester Academy coach Jamie Sullivan and the final 5 schools are Boston College, DePaul, George Washington, Providence and Rhode Island. Marfo ran with BABC on the grassroots circuit after running with The City for the last few years. He has visited Providence unofficially but the Friars were the last school to offer a scholarship — August 3rd — among the 5 teams on his final list. DePaul and George Washington offered on April 29th, while Rhode Island offered about a month later. Boston College offered in mid-June. Assistant coach Brian Blaney has been the lead on Marfo.
UPDATE: 9/16/15 4:18pm – Marfo will visit Boston College this weekend, per Eric Hoffses.
The Friars are recruiting a few big men in the class of 2016 and are set to host Virginia native JJ Matthews on October 3rd. A source also indicates Putnam Science Academy big man Sedee Keita will officially visit Friartown in the next few weeks. The Fighting Ed Cooley’s are also in Wenyen Gabriel‘s final 5 and he recently set an official visit date to Providence for October 9th.
