Now that actual games have gotten underway the accolades coming Kris Dunn’s way are ones he will earn on the court during this season instead of the ones labeled “preseason”. The first such
“in-season” accolade came on Monday when the Big East announced their weekly award winners. Dunn was named the season’s first Big East Player of the Week for his career-high 32 point performance in Providence’s win over Harvard on Saturday.
Dunn won the league’s weekly award twice last season — January 12th and February 2nd — and figures to top that mark this year. Other award winners this week were Creighton’s Khyri Thomas being named Freshman of the Week who scored 18 points –the highest for a Creighton freshman since 2007 — in the Blue Jays’ win over Texas Southern. Roosevelt Jones (Butler), Billy Garrett, Jr. (DePaul), Henry Ellenson (Marquette), Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall) and Jalen Reynolds (Xavier) make up this week’s Honor Roll.
The Friars are 1-0 heading into their matchup with Illinois in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
