Eight of the ten teams in the Big East have two games left. The remaining two teams have just one game left. The bottomline is that the regular season comes to a conclusion on March 5th with all ten teams in action and the likelihood is that many of the Big East members will still be jockeying for final seeding position for the Big East Tournament that begins on March 9th at Madison Square Garden.

Providence vs Villanova Injury Update: Bentil Day-to-Day, Ochefu Likely Out
Providence dropped their first road game of the season on Tuesday at DePaul and a big factor in that loss was Ben Bentil injuring his right ankle about halfway through the opening half. Bentil would return later in the first half before sitting with foul trouble and started the second half on the floor before being pulled by Ed Cooley. Bentil’s status for Saturday’s game is still up in the air, but Providence announced on Thursday that the native of Ghana is “day-to-day”. Cooley is expected to meet with the media later on Thursday, so more information may be known after that occurs.

Providence’s Game at Villanova Had Record Audience for Fox Sports
Providence’s win on January 24th at the Well Fargo Center in snowy Philadelphia against a Villanova team that had won it’s previous 22 Big East conference games was great for the Friars. It was a win against a top 5 ranked team nationally. It was a road win. It was a conference win. Fox Sports also announced today that it was a ratings win. Ben Bentil Named Big East Player of the Week for Second Time
Ben Bentil was named Big East Player of the Week for the second time this season following a week in which he averaged 25.5 points/game, 10.0 rebounds/game and led the Friars to a 2-0 record. The first win of the week came at home against Butler — a top 20 team at the time — and win two of last week was Providence’s thrilling overtime upset of the top 5 Villanova Wildcats. Bentil scored a game-high 31 points in that victory and grabbed 13 rebounds. Bentil leads the league in scoring (19.8 points/game) and is 5th in rebounding (8.2 rebounds/game). Providence at Villanova Game Status Update: GAME POSTPONED
UPDATE: 5:48pm on January 21st:
The game has officially been postponed to Sunday at 12:30pm. A tweet was sent out by the Fox Sports PR Twitter account confirming the rumor I heard earlier.
UPDATE: 5:15pm on January 21st:
Here’s where we stand as of 2:30pm on January 21st:
Right now there is no update on the status of the game beyond latest from both athletic departments earlier Thursday morning with each saying the game is going to be play as scheduled. Providence has cancelled their planned pre-game brunch. Since that time, the Pennsylvania Governor has declared a state of emergency ahead of the impending storm. It should be noted that Providence is traveling to Philadelphia Thursday and the referees for the game are scheduled to travel into town on Friday. Those are good signs for this game being played, even if the snow means fan turnout will be low.
Stay tuned to this post and my twitter account for updates as new information becomes available.
