Bracketology Update 1/15/15

Another day and another bracketology update. The last update came on January 12th when Jerry Palm released his latest bracket and Joe Lunardi released his latest bracket math. Palm has updated his bracket as of 12:30pm ET on January 14th and Lunardi came out with his updated bracket today.

Lunardi’s last bracket was released on January 5th and he had 7 Big East teams in the field of 68. The Big East continues to have 7 teams in Lunardi’s January 15th bracket but some of the seeding has changed.

How Providence Can Boost Their RPI Today 1/15/15

Current RPI Update

Yesterday there were 6 games that could help boost the Friars’ RPI. The results were 3-3. Boston College was able to take care of Harvard at home but it took an extra 5 minutes to do so. The Eagles outscored the Crimson, 10-7, in the overtime session to get the win, 64-57. Notre Dame went on the road to Georgia Tech without starting center Zach Auguste who was back in South Bend dealing with some academic issue. The Fighting Irish trailed by 8 at the half but were able to overtake the Yellow Jackets to get the ACC road win, 62-59. UMass welcomed Davidson to the Mullins Center and the Wildcats were rude guest as they took down the Minutemen, 71-63. Stony Brook defended their home court against UMBC, 64-54. Navy traveled to Bucknell to take on the Bison and fell in a close one, 65-63. Florida State took on Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center and fell on the road, 73-64.

How Providence Can Boost Their RPI Today 1/14/15

Yesterday there were 3 games that could help boost the Friars’ RPI. The results were 2-1. Rhode Island welcomed 17th ranked VCU to the Ryan Center last night but the Rams blew a 9 point lead late to fall to VCU, 65-60.. In ACC action Miami traveled to Cameron Indoor to take on #4 Duke. The Hurricanes kept up with Duke and went on a big run in the second half to actually pull away. Jim Larranaga’s team ended up essentially blowing out Duke, 90-74 . Finally, Kentucky was home against Missouri and the Wildcats blew the doors of the Tigers, 86-37.

There are 6 games today for PC to get some RPI assistance in addition to getting a home win against St. John’s tonight.

Bracketology Update 1/12/15

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has released his latest Bracketology on Monday after updating his bracket on Friday morning. The weekend saw a lot of top teams go down so it makes sense Palm would want to update his bracket this soon. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi also released his latest “Bracket Math” Monday after a weekend that saw teams like Duke, Wisconsin and Arizona all lose.

As of last Friday, Palm had 8 Big East teams in the field of 68 but that included DePaul as the automatic qualifier for the league as they entered the weekend in 1st place at 3-0. A drubbing by Villanova on Saturday has dropped the Blue Demons into a 4-way tie for 1st place with Villanova, Seton Hall and Providence. That also means DePaul’s spot in the field of 68 is gone.

How Providence Can Boost Their RPI Today 1/11/15

Current RPI Update

  • Providence’s RPI on 1/10/15: 17
  • Providence’s RPI on 1/11/15: 14

Yesterday there were 7 games that could help boost the Friars’ RPI. The results was 6-1. Stony Brook fell on the road at Vermont, 71-57. Navy took down rival Army on the road, 75-66. Kentucky needed double overtime but were able to outlast Texas A&M, 70-64. Rhode Island survived a 19 point first half scoring output at Duquense to pull out a road win, 61-60. Albany took care of UMass-Lowell in Lowell, 64-51. In a battle of 1 in teams Binghamton bested Maine, 65-46, to improve to 2-16. Finally, Notre Dame fell at Virginia, 62-56, as the Cavaliers remain undefeated. The Irish lose their first game of the season not against Providence.
