ESPN and CBS Sports have released updated brackets on Monday morning and we’ll continue to track the minutae of each bracketology update so you don’t have to.
Joe Lunardi’s ESPN bracket and Jerry Palm’s CBS Sports bracket have very different reactions to Providence’s 1-1 week last week that saw the Friars win at Creighton and lose at home to Seton Hall. Palm has consistently been higher on the Friars than Lunardi since the preseason brackets came out in November.
Jerry Palm has updated his bracket at CBSSports.com heading into the MLK Weekend’s action. The last Palm bracket I reported on was released on January 11th and featured five Big East teams in the field of 68. The total number of teams in Palm’s field is the same, but he has moved another Big East team up to the 1 seed line, making two teams from the league that have half of the 1 seeds in Palm’s bracket.
ESPN and CBS Sports have released updated brackets on Monday morning and we’ll continue to track the minutae of each bracketology update so you don’t have to. Joe Lunardi’s ESPN bracket and Jerry Palm’s CBS Sports bracket are in agreement on Providence’s seed line again, after their last joint update on January 4th also had the Friars on the same seed line. Joe Lunardi released his updated Bracket Math on Twitter ahead of Saturday’s games. Lunardi has five Big East teams in his field of 68 with Xavier topping the league as a 2 seed. Villanova moved back up to the 3 line, while Providence is the top 4 seed. Butler finds themselves on the 6 line after their rough start to league play and Seton Hall rounds out the Big East contingent as a 10 seed. Marquette has moved up to being in the “Next Four Out” category, so the Big East could potentially match the 6 teams they got into the Big Dance a season ago.
Both ESPN and CBS Sports came out with their inaugural 2016 Bracketology updates on Monday. Joe Lunardi and Jerry Palm are in agreement on the Friars in opponent and location of the First Round game. Each man’s bracket has the Friars facing off against High Point University in Brooklyn in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. They do differ on the particular seed, however.
Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com has updated his bracket for the second time in-season and Providence, as well as some of their Big East compatriots, keeps getting better placement. In Palm’s preseason bracket, Providence was a 9 seed and he was higher than some others on the Friars at that point. In his last update on December 16th, Providence moved up to a 3 seed. The Friars have moved up again in Palm’s bracket out today.
This is the first RPI update post of the season and it will now be a weekly update. Once the season progresses this will return to the daily post that I began doing a season ago.
