Joe Lunardi released an updated bracket on December 8thand followed that up with an edition of Bracket Math on December 15th. On December 21st, Lunardi released his most detailed version of Bracket Math, to date. He has all 68 teams seeded, including all the 1-bid league conference leaders and a total of 80 teams on his seed list. Lunardi continues to have 5 Big East teams in his field of 68, with Xavier, Butler, Villanova and Georgetown making the biggest moves of anyone in the league. Xavier and Butler made positive move, while Villanova and Georgetown slid down the seed list.
After 33 days of college basketball games, Jerry Palm has released his first updated bracketology since before the season began on November 13th. Palm was pretty bullish on Providence and had placed the Friars as a 9 seed in his preseason bracket. With the Friars off to a 10-1 start over those 33 days, Palm is even higher on Ed Cooley’s bunch than Joe Lunardi, who has Providence as a 5 seed in his latest release of Bracket Math. Palm also calls for 5 Big East teams to be in his field of 68.

On Monday night, Lunardi released his latest Bracket Math and Providence, as well as a few other Big East teams, had good showings on the seed list. Joey Brackets had both Xavier and Villanova as 3 seeds last week and that hasn’t changed this week, except that the Musketeers have jumped ahead of the Wildcats on the seed list.

He also had the Friars as an 11 seed, topped only by Jerry Palm at CBSSports.com who had Providence as a 9 seed. After 7 months of “way too early” preseason projections it’s now pretty timely to be making preseason projections — if for no other reason than the preseason ends tonight. This week has seen lots of different publications come out with their preseason bracketology — something that people might argue is still way too early — and there has been a bit of a dichotomy about where Providence stands in regards to the NCAA Tournament following the 2015-16 season. It appears that dichotomy stands between the human based projections and those generated by data and computer programs.
Early August means preseason bracketology, because why not? ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his preseason bracket and the Big East has 5 teams in the field of 68. The Friars are not currently one of those 5 but they are right on the cusp, according to Lunardi. The ACC leads the way with 9 teams in the field followed by the SEC, Pac 12, Big 12 and Big Ten getting 6 teams each. The American (4) and Atlantic 10 (2) are the other multi-bid leagues in Lunardi’s bracket.
