Providence Roster Review & Outlook

It seems the 2014-15 roster is now complete with the addition of German guard Tyree Chambers* so I’ll take an in-depth look at the roster and how it’s shaping up both in the short term and the long term.

If you want to see the current scholarship situation for each season through 2018-2019 there is a dropdown menu at the top of the menu bar above. You can also click this link.

Technically the 2014-15 roster has one open scholarship remaining and maybe Ed Cooley will look to add a mid-year transfer for next season to balance the classes (more on that later) but I believe this will be the group that the Friars will go to battle with this upcoming season. Let’s look at the roster by position group:

Friartown Fan Voice: I Want to Hear from You Friar Fans

I’m going to start a new site feature, Friartown Fan Voice, that will really come into form more during the season but I want to get it started now so there is plenty of time for you all to make your voices heard and if the response is good enough with recruiting questions/comments then maybe I’ll put together something sooner.

This will kind of be a mix of a podcast and a call in sports talk radio show. I’m looking for you to call in with questions, comments, concerns or really any thoughts relating to Providence College basketball. I’ve set up a Google Voice phone number for you to call in and leave your voicemails. Please include your name and hometown so that I can reference you correctly. I tried to get a Google number with a 401 area code but they weren’t any available so I went with my local 516.

The number to call is (516) 500-PCBB (7222) so give it a shot and have your voice heard.

Providence College Basketball 2014-15 Schedule So Far

On June 18th, Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times tweeted that he was hearing PC would play Stonehill for one of the exhibition games this upcoming season. I was able to confirm that report and have added them to the 2014-15 schedule page that is linked at the top of the site.

The non-conference schedule looks pretty challenging overall and features a few interesting opponents at interesting venues like Kentucky at Rupp Arena, Miami at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff at Mohegan Sun. I’ll be doing an in-depth preview of each and every non-conference opponent as the season draws closer so keep an eye open for those previews which will most likely be done weekly beginning in the middle of August.

New Site Feature: Friar Crystal Ball

I’m excited to finally launch a new site feature: Friar Crystal Ball.

First some housekeeping.

You can find the link to this new site feature on the left side of the top menu just below the page header. Clicking on the “Friar Crystal Ball” link will take you to the main page which shows recent picks by class. Or if you are looking for a specific player and know what class he is in, you can hover over the link and you will have 3 options to click: Class of 2015, Class of 2016 and Class of 2017.

All the players listed are PC recruits and all of the people making picks are PC writers/bloggers/insiders. I want to thank Richard Coren, Steve Hartnett, Danny James, Kevin San and our friend FriarTV for being willing to participate and help enhance this site feature.

In addition to this new site feature, there is a site feature that has was launched a couple months back that I haven’t publicized too much but now that the first July live period is upon us, I think it’s a good time to remind you that the “Where is Cooley and the Staff?” feature is also on the top menu and I’ll do my best to keep that updated as I find out where our hard working coaching staff is throughout the month of July and beyond.

Happy July 4th Friartown

Today is a day to celebrate this great country of ours. We wouldn’t be able to do that without the brave men and women who protect our freedoms everyday. Honor our veterans and active duty military personnel today just as much as you BBQ and light off fireworks.
