Providence hosted fans, parents, alumni and friends at their end of season banquet for the 2016-17 men’s basketball team on Saturday night. The event was held at the Omni Hotel and featured a visit from recently available 2017 top-35 recruit Makai Ashton-Langfordand his family. This marks the third straight year that Providence has hosted a recruit the weekend of their annual postseason team banquet. Nigel Williams-Goss visited Providence during the end of season banquet in 2015 and Alpha Diallo attended the event last spring.

Providence’s Kyron Cartwright, Rodney Bullock, Emmitt Holt and Jalen Lindsey will meet with the media from 1:35pm ET through 1:55pm ET. Ed Cooley is scheduled to meet with the media from 1:55pm ET through 2:15pm ET. Following this news conference the Friars will hold an open practice from 2:20pm ET through 3:00pm ET at UD Arena:

Providence head coach Ed Cooley gave an update on his injured Friars during Thursday’s Big East media call. Cooley his players are still “hobbling and getting some treatment.” When asked to provide specific updates on Kyron Cartwright — who played against DePaul on Tuesday night after missing the second half against Creighton last Saturday — and Jalen Lindsey — who did not play against DePaul after injuring his hand at the end of the Creighton game — Cooley termed both players as game-time decisions.
Providence has two of it’s young players over in Croatia as part of the Global Sports Academy Goodwill Tour. Sophomore Jalen Lindsey and freshman Drew Edwards help make up a team of Division 1 college basketball players. The team is coached by top Siena assistant Greg Manning and the team will play 4 games during the 8 day tour of Croatia. The opponents will be professional teams in 4 different cities.
During his radio show last night hosted by John Rooke at Whiskey Republic in Providence, Ed Cooley indicated that both redshirt sophomore Kris Dunn and freshman Jalen Lindsey were on crutches Monday following ankle injuries suffered during the team’s win over Notre Dame on Sunday at Mohegan Sun. Cooley also told the listeners that Dunn and Lindsey would have MRI’s and X-Rays done Tuesday morning to see the extent of the injuries.
Cooley had media availability Tuesday afternoon prior to the team’s practice and he gave an update on each player and the news is not good. The Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara is reporting that Cooley indicated each player’s injury is severe enough that they both may miss the next two games which are at home against Yale Friday and at Rupp Arena against Kentucky Sunday.
Both Kris Dunn and Jalen Linsey have ankle injuries that could keep them out for both Yale and Kentucky, per Ed Cooley
