LaDontae Henton is Finalist for Inaugural Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award

LaDontae Henton had a rough game on his Senior Day against Butler to close out the regular season on Saturday. On Sunday he was recognized by the Big East coaches as being unanimously selected to the Big East’s First Team. On Monday Henton was named as a finalist for the inaugural Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.

The finalists are: Stanley Johnson (Arizona), Justise Winslow (Duke), LaDontae Henton (Providence), Justin Anderson (Virginia) and Sam Dekker (Wisconsin).

The winner of the inaugural award will be presented at ESPN’s College Basketball Awards show on April 10th in Los Angeles.

Henton, Dunn Named to All-Big East First Team

With the league season officially over as of March 7th the Big East has announced the end of season awards. Two Friars were unanimous selections to the All-Big East First Team and its no surprise who those two Friars are. LaDontae Henton and Kris Dunn were unanimous selections despite not being on the First Team in the preseason. Henton was on the Second Team and Dunn was nowhere to be found in the preseason. Villanova’s Darrun Hilliard was the only other unanimous selection to the First Team.

LaDontae Henton Named Big East Player of the Week

LaDontae Henton has been named the Big East Player of the Week after a 22 point, 11 rebound performance in Providence’s win at DePaul in the Friars’ only action last week. Henton has now been named Big East Player of the Week three times this season while his teammate Kris Dunn has gotten the honor twice.

LaDontae Henton Named to 2015 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award Watch List

LaDontae Henton has been snubbed by some awards while being recognized by others. He is being recognized by the first-ever Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year by being part of the 15 player Watch List. The award-winner is ultimately chosen by Dr. J himself along with a selection committee. The 15 member watch list is cut to a final 5 before a decision is made. The winner of the inaugural award will be presented at ESPN’s College Basketball Awards show on April 10th in Los Angeles.

LaDontae Henton Named Big East Player of the Week

For the second time this season but first time since Big East play has started Providence senior LaDontae Henton has been named Big East Player of the Week by the league. The two weekly honors this season are the only two times he has been Big East POW in his career.

Sophomore Kris Dunn was also named Big East Player of the Week two weeks ago.

Providence’s Henton Named to Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List

LaDontae Henton has been a player that has flown under the national radar much like his teammate Bryce Cotton did a season ago while leading Providence in scoring. Henton was recently left off the midseason watch list for the Wooden Award which was ranked as the #2 snub by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Eisenberg. He was also only named to the 2nd Team of the Preseason All-Big East team which is something Ed Cooley has called “a joke” on more than one occasion. On Wednesday Henton got some recognition however by being named to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.
