2017 C Dajour Dickens Visiting Providence

Providence had a special guest at their shootaround this morning and he’s a tall guest. Dajour Dickens from the class of 2017 is taking an unofficial visit to Providence this weekend. Dickens, a 6’11 center, attends The Miller School and runs with Boo Williams. Providence Associate Director of Player Development/Video Ops, Ivan Thomas, has ties to the Boo Williams grassroots program, as does Ed Cooley. Jeff Battle also has extensive connections in that region of the country. Dickens is ranked 126th by 247Sports composite national ranking.

Dickens has offers from Clemson, Creighton, Memphis, Temple, Virginia and Virginia Tech, among others.

Recruiting News: Scout.com Releases Updated Class Of 2017 Top 100 Recruit Rankings

Scout released their update top 100 for the class of 2017 on Wednesday. Providence is still working hard in 2016, but they are also continuing to form relationships with 2017 players and those players will be looking to make their mark during the spring and summer grassroots periods. There are some new names in the top 100 and some that fell out. All in all, Providence is involved with a lot of talented and highly ranked players in the class of 2017.

Providence Offers 2017 Big Man Nate Watson

While the Friar coaching staff is focusing on preparing for Villanova on Saturday and attending a local prep invitational at nearby Rhode Island College, they also managed to extend an offer to a player from Virginia on Thursday. Nate Watson is a 2017 big man who is enrolled at Bishop O’Connell is Virginia is the recipient of the latest Providence offer. The news was first reported by Corey Evans of hoopseen.com. Watson is ranked 157th in the class of 2017 by 247Sports.

Providence Recruiting Update: National Prep Invitational at Rhode Island College

The National Prep Invitational will be played at nearby Rhode Island College starting on Thursday with games running through Sunday afternoon. The Providence coaching staff is expected to spend plenty of time taking in the action at RIC over the next few days. There are more than 15 recruits that Providence is involved with from the classes of 2016, 2017 and 2018 that are expected to play in this event. Cox Hub will be streaming 9 games from the NPSI between Thursday and Saturday. The games that will be streamed can be found at this link and they are in bold with an asterisk below.

Recruiting Update: Big Man Search Goes North of the Border, ESPN Player Rankings Updated & More

Recruiting never stops and Providence continues to scowl the landscape for a big man to add to the class of 2016 that currently only includes point guard Maliek White. There are certainly some names that have become well-known to Providence fans over the last few months like Darius Hicks, Levi Cook, Isaiah Whaley and others. But some new ones also surfaced recently. A Friar coach was also spotted at a NEPSAC game on Wednesday. Shifting gears to future classes, ESPN released their updated player rankings for the classes of 2017 and 2018 and there are some notable Friar recruits scattered among the lists. The Friars also extended an offer to a player in the class of 2018 over the weekend after various Friar coaches attended the talent-heavy Hoophall Classic that took place at Springfield College from January 14th-18th.

Providence Offers Canadian Big Man from Class of 2016

Corey Evans reported on Twitter that the Friars have dished out a new offer to a 2016 big man. Providence offered Kalif Young of Orangeville Prep, a 6’9 250 lb power forward. Providence had been searching high and low for a big man to fill the size void on the roster for next season. Some other names that Providence has been involved with include Isaiah Whaley, Iran Bennett, Darius Hicks and Levi Cook. Whaley recently scheduled an official visit around January 23rd.

Kalif Young has other offers from Loyola Marymount, Pittsburgh and St. Bonaventure, according to VerbalCommits.com. He ran with CIA Bounce on the Nike EYBL grassroots circuit.

Providence Recruits Playing in Hoop Dreams Magazine Prep Classic

Providence coaches have had a number of good local opportunities to check in on some of their New England area prep recruits and another one presents itself this weekend at Bunker Hill Community College. Fourteen schools will play nine total games from noon on Saturday to 4:30pm Sunday and a handful of Friar recruits are playing in those games.
