Providence has been actively pursuing big men since Paschal Chukwu announced he was transferring out of Friartown for a change of scenery. That news broke a little over 30 days ago. They also added some beef to the frontcourt in 2015 big man Quadree Smith who committed to Ed Cooley and the Friars about 2 weeks ago. There was a recent miss in the class of 2015, news on the transfer wire, new offers being handed out and new interest being expressed.

Providence 2015 Frontcourt Target Commits to Boston College

After beefing up the frontcourt with the commitment of 6’8 250 pound Quadree Smith, Ed Cooley has missed out on adding length to that frontcourt as 2015 Sound Doctrine Christian Academy big man JC Reyes committed to Boston College on Thursday, per ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Reyes visited Providence on June 11th and 12th after tripping to Boston College. With Taylor on the books Providence currently has 2 open scholarships for the class of 2017 that number is likely to change with the transfer epidemic that is happening around college basketball.

Providence Bolsters Frontcourt with Commitment from 2015 Quadree Smith

The Providence front court certainly has gotten bigger, even if it isn’t much taller. 6’8 250 pound Quadree Smith visited Friartown over the weekend and gave a commitment to Ed Cooley on Wednesday. The commitment was delayed while the Friar compliance staff combed through Smith’s transcript, per a source with knowledge of the situation. Originally a member of the class of 2014, Smith did a post graduate year at IMG Academy in Florida this past year after graduating from his local public school, Potomac. The Maryland native had committed to UNC-Greensboro in November of 2013 but never signed a National Letter of Intent. He decommitted in January 2014. Associate head coach Andre LaFleur is the Providence coach that made first contact with Smith.
