Report: Kris Dunn Will Return to Providence for Junior Season
The news that Providence fans have been waiting for since their season ended in Columbus, OH on March 20th has broken. Kris Dunn will return to Providence for his junior season instead of entering the 2015 NBA Draft, according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowki. The 21-year old Dunn has two years of eligibility remaining due to a medical redshirt granted for the 2013-14 season when Dunn played in just 4 games. Dunn was being projected as high as 13 by DraftExpress.com and 10th by Sam Vecenie of CBSSports.com. A formal announcement is expected soon, per Wojnarowski. A good place for that formal announcement may be the team’s end of season banquet on Saturday at the Omni Hotel in Providence.

Matchups and Dates Announced for Inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games
The Big East and Big Ten conferences announced the matchups and dates for the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games on Wednesday. The conferences sent out a joint press release to make the announcement.
Providence will play Illinois at home, which is fitting considering the Friars play on Dave Gavitt Court at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. “Our family is excited about the Big Ten and BIG EAST launching this new series, which honors the memory of Dave Gavitt and his passion for college basketball,” said Dan Gavitt, NCAA Vice President of Men’s Basketball Championships. “He would be most pleased that the student-athletes, coaches and supporters of these historic college basketball programs can look forward to annual competition at the highest level to help open the college season with a bang. We are thankful to the two great conferences for recognizing the Gavitt legacy with the intra-conference games featuring new and old rivalries and intriguing match-ups.”
Here are the matchups and dates for the 2015 Gavitt Tipoff Games:

Providence Recruits to Play in 2015 Mary Kline Classic
The 2015 Mark Kline Classic is the 5th annual event put on by Alex Kline. Kline has a site called The Recruit Scoop as part of the Rivals.com network and has been named to Forbes’ 30 under 30 list. To date the Mary Kline Classic has raised over $100,000, according to the website and traditionally features some of the best rising college freshman and rising juniors and seniors in high school. Some notable alumni of the game include Tyler Ennis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Isaiah Whitehead. The rosters for the 5th annual game were announced Monday.

Potential Candidates to Replace Bob Simon
With associate head coach Bob Simon leaving Providence to join newly hired Avery Johnson’s coaching staff at Alabama there is now an open spot on Ed Cooley’s staff. That open spot is a big one as Simon was a tireless recruiter for Cooley and a very good X & O coach. I’m a little disappointed Simon left Providence for a lateral title and not to be a head coach but being the associate head coach for an SEC school will likely help his head coaching prospects. Simon also probably got a nice pay increase from that football money and that money will go farther down in Alabama than it would in Rhode Island.
