Tyler Harris Won’t Return to Providence Next Season
Providence redshirt junior Tyler Harris will receive his bachelor’s degree in Sociology on May 17th at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and that will be the final time Harris’ name is called over the PA system at the Dunk. The academic senior will take his degree and move on from Providence, the school announced Tuesday. Harris has one final year of eligibility at his disposal. It isn’t clear at this time if Harris intends to use that eligibility or if he is leaving Providence to explore professional opportunities. It sounds like Harris will explore transfer opportunities and if the right one isn’t available he will head overseas.

Thoughts from the Road: Plenty of Blame to Go Around, Big Picture Still Positive
Thoughts from the long drive home from Columbus…
- I’m not going to spend a ton of time talking about the game itself because everyone is probably already all talked and read out about it. Let me say a few things that I believe to be true. The officiating was poor. The technical foul called on Ed Cooley by Terry Ogelsby and the subsequent “explanation” given by NCAA coordinator of officials John Adams were poor. The job the NCAA did of placing Dayton in Dayton and then 75 miles up the road in Columbus was poor. The scheduling of the game being at 10pm — ultimately tipping near 11pm and ending after 1am — was poor. I can believe all of those things to be true and, at the same time, believe they weren’t the reasons Providence was defeated and sent packing in the round of 64.

Notable Quotes from Providence Following the Dayton Loss
Ed Cooley on the technical foul: Honest, I didn’t even know I hit the chair. You’re coaching your team. You’re trying to put some emotion into your team. You know, puts the official in a tough spot. And I was conversating with him and it was one of those things, it was more emotion, trying to fire up my team. I actually moved the chair out, I don’t know how it looked on tape or whatever. But I’m just trying to coach my team. That’s what that was about. Honestly, I thought it was, me personally, I’m a character guy. That to me was wrong, in my opinion, from my seat. I’m coaching my team.
Cooley on the 30 to 7 free throw attempt disparity: “Neutral site.”
Question: What was the atmosphere like here tonight? Obviously this felt like a home game for Dayton. Did that come into play? Cooley: “This was a neutral site. It was neutral.”
Cooley on the seniors: “I’m proud of our seniors and I’m proud of LaDontae. I’m proud of Tyler, Carson. Those guys came to Providence when we were struggling with our identity. I couldn’t be more proud of our seniors to where we were some four years ago. I think you gotta look at the big picture. It’s terrible to lose this game. It’s terribke not to see these guys have a postseason win on their resume but everything else they’ve accomplished. So I’m reflecting back a little bit because I’m hurting more for them than the loss.”
