Providence Survives Late 3-point Barrage to Beat Marquette, 77-66

The first half of Sunday’s game in front of a sellout crowd at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center felt fairly comfortable. The first few minutes of the second half made things even more comfortable as Providence got out to a 24 point lead with 13:15 to go. The game seemed well in hand. Matt Carlino started the comeback by chipping away at that 24 point deficit.

Review of Last Night’s Action

There were 2 games yesterday that could help boost the Friars’ RPI. The results were 2-0. Brown defeated Penn at home, 75-69. Yale blew out Princeton, 81-60, in New Haven.

Recruiting News: Rivals Releases Expanded Class Of 2017 Top 75 Recruit Rankings

On Thursday Rivals released their expanded recruit rankings for the class of 2017. Prior to coming out with their top 75 on Thursday they had only ranked the top 25 players. Providence had 2 players in that top 25 and they now have 11 players in this top 75. Also remember that Providence got a commitment from 2017 guard Javon Taylor in August 2014.

Providence Resume Review 2/27/15

Providence appears to be safely on their way to a repeat trip to the Blue Carpet for the first time since they appeared in the 1989 and 1990 NCAA Tournament fields. They lost their first game in both of those years. That’s something Ed Cooley and this crew will be looking to change this year. I’ll be doing regular examinations of Providence’s NCAA Tournament resume as the regular season winds down.

This week I’ll also be doing some blind resumes to compare to Providence because that always seems fun. Let’s get started.
