Joe Lunardi is now apparently releasing Wednesday brackets now. I believe he plans on released updated brackets every single day during the final week of the season. The Big East still has 6 teams in the field though there has been some movement along the seed lines.
With two weeks to the day until the start of the Big East Tournament let’s take a look at the what the seed and matchups would be as of today. The first game of the tournament will be at 7pm on Wednesday, March 11th with another game that night at 9:30pm. All games will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
Here is where we stand through games on 2/24/2015:
There were 2 games yesterday that could help boost the Friars’ RPI in addition to their game at Villanova. The results were 0-2. Notre Dame fell on the road at the Carrier Dome to the postseason-banned Syracuse Orange, 65-60. Boston College also fell on the road in ACC play at Pittsburgh, 71-65.
The game started with Villanova jumping out to a 9-0 lead and that was a bad omen for the night. For much of the early first half Providence had more turnovers than field goals. Villanova scored 14 points of 14 first half turnovers by the Friars. The number for the game would be an ugly 25 Villanova points off 15 Providence giveaways. Other ugly disparities on the stat sheet in Tuesday night’s game was 26/31 from the free throw line for Villanova against just 6/12 free throws for Providence and 13/25 from downtown for the Wildcats while the Friars managed just 3/10 from 3-point range.
Providence has been looking to add another guard in the 2015 class for awhile now and there have been some names that popped up over the last few months. A name that Friar fans will remember from the summer of 2014 is Ricky Council. Council was a member of the class of 2014 when Providence first began expressing interest in the 6’4 guard from North Carolina. Following a summer on the grassroots circuit with his non-shoe company affiliated team Brand X, Council opted for a postgraduate year at Moravian Prep and became part of the class of 2015.
