Providence Friars Overcome Injuries, Foul Trouble & Refs for Road Win at #24 Georgetown

The Providence Friars and (#24) Georgetown Hoyas met at the Verizon Center Wednesday night in Washington DC. Kris Dunn was dealing with a sore back and was routinely being stretched out by a trainer during long timeouts. You wouldn’t have known Dunn’s back was bothering him by the way he played. The soaring sophomore had a big first half and finished the game with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals. Dunn spent more than 6 minutes on the Friar bench in the middle of the second half but LaDontae Henton came alive during that time. Lucky Number 7: Support for Drew Brown

If you aren’t already familiar with the story of Drew Brown you can read about his battle with bone cancer here. The cliff notes version is Drew is a Providence College men’s ice hockey player who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, during Providence’s run in the Hockey East playoffs last season. Brown spent much of the last year in chemotherapy and had a surgery to insert a metal rod into his leg.

On Saturday, February 7th the men’s hockey team and the Student Athletic Advisory Council (S.A.A.C.) are hosting Drew Brown Night. Brown was recently declared cancer-free so Drew Brown Night will be a chance to celebrate that while also raising money for the Brown family to help offset some of their medical bills. Coast to Coast Promotions will donate 100% of the revenue generated by t-shirts they are selling to the Brown family. You can purchase those t-shirts here.
