Opening Line: Providence +3 at St. John’s 1/31/15

Providence and St. John’s play for the second time this season with the Friars looking to avenge a loss on their home court on January 14th. The two teams split the regular season series last year with the visiting team coming out victorious each time. Providence had the last laugh as the Friars defeated the Red Storm at Madison Square Garden in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals on their way to winning the tournament and getting the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid.

This game opened with the Friars as a road underdog at +3.

Review of Last Night’s Action

There were 2 games yesterday to help Providence boost their RPI. The overall results were 2-0. UMass defended their home court in Atlantic 10 play against Dayton, 66-64. Kentucky pulled away from Missouri in the second half to win on the road, 69-53.

Dunn’s Triple Double Leads Providence Past DePaul, 83-72

Providence and DePaul had to wait a couple extra days to play this game but Kris Dunn didn’t seem to mind. The redshirt sophomore had a career game that spurred Providence to an 11 point home win over the DePaul Blue Demons. “I thought Kris dictated the entire game today,” said Ed Cooley after the game. “He totally, totally dominated the game, defensively, offensively, rebounding.”

The first half was the key to the victory according to Cooley. “I thought the first 20 minutes really was, to me, the game. I thought we played with purpose. I thought we had energy.”

Recruiting News: Scout.com Class Of 2016 Top 100 Recruit Rankings Updated

Scout.com released their updated class of 2016 top 100. ESPN updated their 2015, 2016 and 2017 rankings on January 21st. Providence is involved with more than 10% of the Scout’s latest top 100 and the Friars can afford to be a little picky with only 2 scholarships available as of now.
