Review of Last Night’s Action

There were 9 games yesterday to help Providence boost their RPI. The overall results were 7-2. Florida State needed double overtime to outlast Wake Forest at home, 82-76. URI got a last second tip in by Gil Biruta to win at Fordham, 64-63. Binghamton went on the road and beat UMBC, 68-56, to get their 3rd win of the season. Stony Brook improved to 15-8 with a home win against Hartford, 72-66. Albany beat Vermont on the road in a low scoring affair, 47-44. Navy defended their home court against American, 64-54. Notre Dame beat Duke, 77-73, at home in an exciting game between top 10 teams. Boston College gave Louisville all the Cardinals could handle but came up short at home, 81-72. Miami dropped a home ACC game against Georgia Tech, 70-50. That loss assures the Hurricanes will drop from the top 25 on Monday.

Opening Lines

Opening Line: Providence -11 vs DePaul 1/29/15

Providence and DePaul will finally play their game on Thursday after being postponed from Tuesday night due to the blizzard that hit the Northeast this week. The Friars opened as an 11 point favorite against the Blue Demons.

Stay tuned for updates as they happen and the total amount once that’s available.

UPDATE: 8:40pm 1/28/15 the line has moved to Providence -10.

UPDATE: 8:20am 1/29/15 the total is out at 140.5.

Recent Trends (via Vegas Insider)

  • Providence is 10-5-2 ATS this season
  • DePaul is 12-8 ATS this season
  • Providence is 5-3 ATS at home this season
  • DePaul is 4-3 ATS on the road this season
  • Providence is 4-1 ATS their last five home games with the lone loss coming against St. John’s. The Friars are also 8-2 in their last 10 ATS overall.

Game On: Providence and DePaul to Play Thursday at the Dunk

Providence College Athletic Director Bob Driscoll made the announcement via his Twitter account. The Friars and DePaul will play Thursday at 2pm and the game will take place at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

This comes on the heels of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center’s tweet that the Fleetwood Mac concert would take place as scheduled on Wedneday night. The news means DePaul will be able to travel to Rhode Island from Chicago on Wedneday and Providence’s athletic department and ticket office avoid the potential headache of what to do about season ticket holders and others who had purchased tickets for this game.

Bracketology: Let’s Make a Bracket

With Bracket Matrix up to 73 brackets reporting right now I figured why not try to create my own bracket to see how I do against the rest of the field. I’ll give you my S-curve as well as try to seed teams while following the NCAA Selection Committee’s guidelines for seeding. I’ll try to do this post at least once a week as the season progresses.

The automatic qualifiers are based on the conference standings through games on January 26th.
