Review of Last Night’s Action

There were two games yesterday to help Providence boost their RPI. The results were 5-0 plus Providence’s own win to make it 6-0. Stony Brook went on the road and beat UMass-Lowell, 65-45. Albany also won on the road at Hartford, 62-53. URI took care of La Salle at the Ryan Center, 59-47. Notre Dame crushed Buzz Williams and Virginia Tech on the road, 85-60. Miami (FL) used a second half comeback to beat NC State at home, 65-60.

Providence Survives Late Turnovers to Beat Xavier in OT, 69-66

Providence led this game for 36:05 of the 45:00 it would take to get an outcome in this Big East battle that required a timeout at one point to clean blood off the court at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in front of 8,250 fans. Providence led by double digits for a fair amount of that 36 minutes of lead time yet the game never felt in control. With Providence leading, 45-35, I asked on Twitter: “anyone else feel like this 10 point lead is really 1?”

That was around the 9:43 mark of the second half. The lead fluctuated between 10 and 6 for awhile after that until a 10 point lead at the 3:12 mark following 2 made free throws by Kris Dunn would evaporate down to 0 when the clock ran out of regulation time. 3 consecutive turnovers, each one more lackadaisical than the last, gave Xavier the ability to come all the way back to force the overtime session.

Report: Tyler Harris Plans to Declare for 2015 NBA Draft

According to a report from RealGM.com’s Shams Charania, Tyler Harris is planning to declare for the 2015 NBA Draft. The report cites an unnamed source.

First let me say that it has not been a well kept secret that Tyler Harris had plans of going pro after this season. In a NY Post article from the summer of 2014 Harris’ father Torrel, likely the source of the RealGM.com story, predicted that Tyler would declare for the draft after this season.
