Bracketology Update 1/22/15

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his latest bracket and “Bracket Math” Thursday with games through January 21st. Lunardi has 7 Big East teams in the field after only having 6 in on his bracket released on Monday this week and the league also is dominating the 6 seed line.

This also seems like as good a time as any to re-introduce a section of these bracketology update posts that will continue from now on and that is the section that uses information from BracketMatrix.com. More on that below.

Review of Last Night’s Action

There were two games yesterday to help Providence boost their RPI. The results were 0-2 with UMass and Navy both losing on the road in league play.

Tonight’s Action

There are 5 games today for PC to get some RPI assistance in addition to their own game at home against Xavier.

Opening Line: Providence -1.5 vs Xavier 1/22/15

Providence welcomes Xavier to the Dunk following a comfortable road win at Creighton to sweep that season series. The Musketeers are coming off a home win against Marquette and are 3-3 in league play while the Friars are 4-2. The line opened with Providence as a 1.5 point favorite. It was bet up to -2.5 20 minutes after opening.

Stay tuned for updates as they happen and the total amount once that’s available.

UPDATE: 1/22/15 3:36pm the line is at -2 and the total is at 140.

Providence’s Henton Named to Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List

LaDontae Henton has been a player that has flown under the national radar much like his teammate Bryce Cotton did a season ago while leading Providence in scoring. Henton was recently left off the midseason watch list for the Wooden Award which was ranked as the #2 snub by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Eisenberg. He was also only named to the 2nd Team of the Preseason All-Big East team which is something Ed Cooley has called “a joke” on more than one occasion. On Wednesday Henton got some recognition however by being named to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.

Recruiting News: ESPN Updated 2015, 2016 and 2017 Recruit Rankings

ESPN updated all three of their high school basketball recruiting rankings Tuesday. Paul Biancardi also gave some background on how the rankings are done:

We base our rankings on the four Ps: Performance, production potential and projection, among many other factors. First we analyze and evaluate a prospect’s individual performance, his production level now and possibly at the collegiate level, his potential in the college game, and where he could land on a possible professional draft board.
