Providence College Basketball 2014-15 Schedule So Far

On June 18th, Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times tweeted that he was hearing PC would play Stonehill for one of the exhibition games this upcoming season. I was able to confirm that report and have added them to the 2014-15 schedule page that is linked at the top of the site.

The non-conference schedule looks pretty challenging overall and features a few interesting opponents at interesting venues like Kentucky at Rupp Arena, Miami at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff at Mohegan Sun. I’ll be doing an in-depth preview of each and every non-conference opponent as the season draws closer so keep an eye open for those previews which will most likely be done weekly beginning in the middle of August.

  • Nike EYBL Peach Jam Games on ESPNU

ESPNU is televising both semifinal games as well as the finals which are all being played today. The first semifinal just concluded with Team Penny defeating Boo Williams 77-68. The second semifinal will begin shortly and will be NJ Playaz against Team SCAN. The winner will take on Team Penny at 3pm in the finals.

NJ Playaz features Isaiah Briscoe who was coached by Ed Cooley on Team USA in June at the FIBA Americas games. Briscoe cut his list shortly after that tournament and that list didn’t include Providence but Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal said “the Friar staff will now spend time working New Jersey guard Isaiah Briscoe.” I don’t know that it has played out that way so far but I would expect PC to have a couple coaches at this game because of Team SCAN with 2015 big man Cheick Diallo and 2016 guards Tyus Battle and Devonte Green.

PC Recruiting Guide to the Second July Evaluation Period

This will be the second of three live evaluation periods in the month of July where college coaches are allowed to attend and evaluate recruits. These three live periods are so critical as coaches can start to really focus on specific targets and maybe even have a new player catch their eye so they can offer and get involved. I’ll be taking a look at some of the major grassroots events that are in this second live period and giving you a list of PC recruits that will be in attendance at each one. This will be a working document so if/when I see a name that PC is recruiting at one of these events and I don’t have the player listed I will add him. Also, if you want to keep track of where Ed Cooley and the rest of the PC staff is during this live period, click here.

The Peach Jam is the culmination of the Nike EYBL circuit and acts as the playoffs. Only 24 teams qualify and there is a play-in game Wednesday to determine that 24th team. I could write up a big preview of this event but the guys at D1Circuit.com have done an absurdly good job at putting together this preview so I would be doing a disservice to try to write anything further. This is an absolute must read for all recruiting junkies especially because, as you’ll see below, there are a TON of PC recruits at the Peach Jam this year.
