New Videos Added by PC Athletics

If you check out the top menu on this page you will see a tab called “FriarTV”. Within that tab you will see videos broken down by non conference and Big East games but there is also a page called “Non Game Videos”. This page houses videos ranging from the Cox Sports documentary, “Cooley” to recruiting videos. Yesterday, Providence College Athletics YouTube account uploaded two new videos and the links have been posted on this page. The first video is the intro video played at the Dunk on Senior Night when the basketball team took on Marquette. The second video is the intro video played at Scheider Arena prior to a PC hockey game.

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Announces 2014 Tip-Off Tournament Schedule

We’ve known that Providence is playing in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, sponsored by the MAAC conference, for their exempt tournament in the 2014-15 season for a while now. We even knew that the Friars would be playing Florida State and Notre Dame at Mohegan Sun. What we learned today from the press release is the dates of those games and PC’s campus site opponents. Also, the theory that PC would be playing UMass in the tournament as part of their home and home agreement turned out to not be accurate. Here is Providence’s schedule for this tournament:

November 17th – Binghampton @ Providence time TBA

November 20th – Navy @ Providence time TBA

November 22nd – Providence vs. Florida State 2:30pm at Mohegan Sun

November 23rd – Providence vs. Notre Dame 2:30pm at Mohegan Sun

Here is the full schedule:

12. Villanova (29-5, 16-2): The Wildcats will lose one key cog in their three-headed monster of a backcourt. James Bell is gone, but Darrun Hilliard II (14.3 ppg) and Ryan Arcidiacono (9.9 ppg) are back. The key return is forward JayVaughn Pinkston (14.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg), who drove Villanova’s offense much of last season. Jay Wright will have a pretty strong group. Look for Josh Hart to step into a much bigger role in 2014-15 as a sophomore.

Recruiting grade: B

BREAKING: 2014 PG Devonte Graham Cuts List to Two

Devonte’ Graham’s situation became a bit of a national story when former Appalachian State coach, Jason Capel, refused to release Graham from his National Letter of Intent. Graham enrolled at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire instead of the college in North Carolina. The main reason that was rumored as why Capel refused to release Graham is because he believed NC State had tampered with Graham after he signed with App State. Capel got axed after a disappointing 9-21 season and new coach, Jim Fox gave Graham his full release on April 9th. After listing a final 5 of Kansas, NC State, Providence, Virginia and Virginia Tech, Graham visited Kansas, NC State and Virginia. He didn’t commit to any of those three and it was rumored that he and his mom were trying to set up visits with PC and Virginia Tech but that now seems to be a mute point. Graham tweeted this earlier:

It now appears even more likely that NC State, the place where tampering was rumored to have occurred, will be his destination. It will become a total lock if Myles Turner announces he is going to Kansas at 4pm today because the Jayhawks only have 1 open scholarship and they want Turner more than Graham. I don’t think NC State will be a surprise to most people involved as rumors of them being a lock started soon after he was granted his release. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear a commitment announcement in the next day or two depending on what Myles Turner says today. This also puts to rest the rumors of a Graham/Terrell package deal to Providence.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman: The Fab 50 for 2014-15

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman came out with “a detailed look ahead at the nation’s top programs and how they’re positioning themselves for the 2014-15 campaign … and beyond.” Providence didn’t make Goodman’s cut of top 50 teams (cue the conspiracy theorists) while teams like UTEP, Stephen F. Austin, Toledo and Louisiana Tech do make the cut ahead of the Friars. There are 3 Big East teams mentioned and it could be argued that PC will be better than #40 Xavier next season. Click here to see the full top 50 (ESPN Insider). Below are the 3 Big East teams:
