Calling All Students: Get to the Dunk for Senior Night: T-shirts Given Out To First 1000 Students at Tonight’s Game

PC Athletics announced on Twitter that the first 1000 students at the Marquette game tonight would receive either a Cotton or Batts shirt for Senior Night. This is a nice touch by PC and I really hope the students show up in force, not just for Cotton and Batts, but for all the great Seniors on this team.

Game Notes

  • The Friars and Golden Eagles have met 17 times all time. Marquette has a dominant edge in the series, 13-4. Providence has still yet to win in Milwaukee. Ever.
  • Bryce Cotton leads the nation in minutes per game with 39.9. He is averaging a mind boggling 41.7 mpg in Big East contests. He is 13th in the nation in points per game at 21.6, 22nd in the nation in assists per game at 5.8 and tied for 13th in the nation in Free Throws made at 179. Cotton is now in 6th place all time on the PC scoring list with 1,838 career points in a Friar uniform. He only needs 2 points to surpass the great Marvin Barnes for 5th all time.
  • Bryce Cotton is 2nd in the Big East in scoring (21.5 ppg) and Davante Gardner is 11th (14.9 ppg)
  • Bryce Cotton is 1st in the Big East in assists (5.8 apg) and Derrick Wilson is tied for 6th (4.1 apg)
  • Kadeem Batts is 3rd (7.8 rpg) and LaDontae Henton is 6th (7.0 rpg) in the Big East in rebounds while Davante Gardner is 12th (5.7 rpg) and Jamil Wilson is 13th (5.6 rpg)
  • Line opened at PC -3.5

Line opened with Providence as a 3.5 point favorite and has since moved up to 4 points. My numbers (not inclusive of home court advantage, etc) have this game as a pick ’em. Kenpom sees the final score as 72-67 in favor of Providence.

Bracketology Update: Joe Lunardi’s Updated Bracket #pcbb

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi came out with his new bracket today and he has PC as the 1st of the “First Four Out” category. Lunardi currently has a total of 3 Big East teams in with SJU and PC in the “First Four Out” and Georgetown in the “Next Four Out” category. It looks like, depending on how this last week of the regular season and the Big East Tournament go, the Big East could get as many as 6 in and as few as 3.

I’ll have a full Bracketology update on Thursday at noon as I do every week.

NEPSAC Playoff Recaps

Kevin Farrahar and NERR have some great recaps of the weekend’s action in the NEPSAC playoffs. Cooley and staff were in attendance on Sunday for the Cushing and Brewster games but they weren’t there for the Cushing semifinal game on Friday night which makes me wonder if they are still in the running for Jalen Adams who is in the process of blowing up nationally. It’s clear the PC staff is making Donovan Mitchell their priority in 2015 and they also appear to still be very interested in Devonte’ Graham despite not being able to speak to him until May and not knowing if he will even be eligible to play next year or not. Mitchell won the MVP of the AAA group and Graham made some savvy and winning plays down the stretch.
