Providence Coaches Spotted at National Prep Championships

The 2016 National Prep Championships are being held Tuesday and Wednesday at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT and there are a good amount of Providence recruiting targets that are playing over the next two days. Adam Finkelstein already spotted Providence coaches at Albertus Magnus College and it was later learned that those coaches are Ed Cooley and Andre LaFleur. The question is, who is Providence there to see? Here are some answers.

Providence Officially Lands Commitment from 2017 Big Man

Providence got some good news on the recruiting front after another loss on the court when 2017 Dajour Dickens officially committed to Ed Cooley and the Friars. The news comes directly from Dickens himself this time after a false start report last Friday. Dickens is a Virginia native and stands at 6’11. He visited Providence for the Georgetown game on February 13th and evidently liked what he saw. Dickens is enrolled at Bethel High School and runs with famed grassroots program Boo Williams.

Providence Recruiting Update: National Prep Invitational at Rhode Island College

The National Prep Invitational will be played at nearby Rhode Island College starting on Thursday with games running through Sunday afternoon. The Providence coaching staff is expected to spend plenty of time taking in the action at RIC over the next few days. There are more than 15 recruits that Providence is involved with from the classes of 2016, 2017 and 2018 that are expected to play in this event. Cox Hub will be streaming 9 games from the NPSI between Thursday and Saturday. The games that will be streamed can be found at this link and they are in bold with an asterisk below.

Recruiting Update: Big Man Search Goes North of the Border, ESPN Player Rankings Updated & More

Recruiting never stops and Providence continues to scowl the landscape for a big man to add to the class of 2016 that currently only includes point guard Maliek White. There are certainly some names that have become well-known to Providence fans over the last few months like Darius Hicks, Levi Cook, Isaiah Whaley and others. But some new ones also surfaced recently. A Friar coach was also spotted at a NEPSAC game on Wednesday. Shifting gears to future classes, ESPN released their updated player rankings for the classes of 2017 and 2018 and there are some notable Friar recruits scattered among the lists. The Friars also extended an offer to a player in the class of 2018 over the weekend after various Friar coaches attended the talent-heavy Hoophall Classic that took place at Springfield College from January 14th-18th.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Get Out of Omaha with Road Win

This Thoughts from the Road: Home Command Center Edition is brought to you by my shiny new home office and is fueled by the bacon and eggs I cooked up for dinner.

  • While the headline doesn’t tell the entire story, it gets across the true takeaway from this game. Yes, it was ugly. Yes, Providence played poorly. But when the NCAA Selection Committee looks at Providence at the end of the year, this game at Creighton will be a road win. That’s it. A road win that helps Providence’s RPI because it counts as 1.4 wins. It’s really as simple as that.
