Cox Basketball Luncheon Awards Winners
This past week Cox Sports held its’ annual Awards Luncheon honoring our Division I, II and III players and coaches of the year. There were a few familar faces in this year’s winner’s circle.
Providence College’s Ed Cooley was named Coach of the Year for the Joe Mullaney Award after leading the Friars to the team’s second BIG EAST Tournament title and first since 1994. He also guided the team to a 23-12 mark and the Friars’ first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2004.
Bryce Cotton earned the Bill Reynolds Award as the Rhode Island Division I Men’s Players of the Year. Cotton earns the award after leading the BIG EAST in assists with 6.1 apg in league contests. The senior also ranked second in the BIG EAST in scoring (21.8 ppg, 23.4 ppg BIG EAST play). He ranks ninth in the nation in scoring this season at 21.8 ppg.
The men’s basketball team won the Dave Gavitt Award for the Team of the Year. The Friars finished as BIG EAST Tournament Champions and posted a 23-12 overall record.
