Providence’s Rodney Bullock Testing NBA Draft Waters

Providence junior Rodney Bullock will put his name into the NBA Draft to test the waters, ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman tweeted. Bullock is taking advantage of the rule change made in January 2016 that allow college players to enter the NBA Draft multiple times and still maintain their eligibility to return to school as long as they don’t hire an agent. Goodman’s tweet indicates Bullock is not going to sign with an agent.

Providence’s Kyron Cartwright is Big East’s Most Improved Player

For the second straight season the Providence Friars are home to the Big East’s Most Improved Player. Kyron Cartwright was chosen by the league’s coaches as the 2016-17 Big East Most Improved Player a day after being named a Second Team All-Big East performer in his junior season with the Friars. Cartwright is the fourth player in school history to win this award and he’s the third player coached by Ed Cooley to do so.  Previous winner include Ben Bentil (2016), Kadeem Batts (2013) and Herbert Hill (2007).

2017 Hasahn French Includes Providence on Cut-Down List of 13 Schools

2017 forward Hasahn French announced a cut-down list of 13 schools on Friday via his Twitter account and Providence was among the baker’s dozen that will be vying for the versatile big man’s services next season. French is a native of Middletown, NY but attends Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, MA. The lefty ran with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL grassroots circuit where he averaged 6.8 points/game, 7.5 rebounds/game and 1.4 blocks/game. The other 12 schools on French’s list are Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Temple, St. John’s, UNLV, USC and VCU.

God Leaving Providence for the NBA, Again

Jon Rothstein is reporting that God Shammgod is leaving Providence to join the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA in the role of assistant of player development. Shammgod has been a mentor and trainer for several prominent recent Friars, including Bryce Cotton, LaDontae Henton, Ben Bentil and Kris Dunn.
