Thoughts from the Road: Butler Ruins Senior Day

Thoughts from the road as I traveled down 95 South Sunday afternoon…

  • I felt pretty confident heading into Saturday’s season finale against Butler that Providence could not lose on Senior Day. I put that confidence in writing both here and on Scout Friars. The last thing I expected to happen on a day when emotions would be running high and the team would be amped up was for Providence to have a slow start. Welp.

Thoughts from the Road: Providence Comes Back at Seton Hall, Henton Scores 2,000

This version of thoughts from the road should probably be titled “Thoughts from the Train” as I took 2 trains – both shoving off from different Pennsylvania Stations – to get from the Prudential Center to my home.

Providence Friars Fall Flat, 89-61, On Villanova’s Senior Night

The game started with Villanova jumping out to a 9-0 lead and that was a bad omen for the night. For much of the early first half Providence had more turnovers than field goals. Villanova scored 14 points of 14 first half turnovers by the Friars. The number for the game would be an ugly 25 Villanova points off 15 Providence giveaways. Other ugly disparities on the stat sheet in Tuesday night’s game was 26/31 from the free throw line for Villanova against just 6/12 free throws for Providence and 13/25 from downtown for the Wildcats while the Friars managed just 3/10 from 3-point range.

Providence Dominates DePaul, 84-57

Providence opened up a 15 point halftime lead behind 52% shooting from the field and never let DePaul get back into this game. Kris Dunn followed up his triple-double from last time these two teams met by scoring 21 points, ripping down 4 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists and grabbing 4 steals. LaDontae Henton got his 4th double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Joining Henton on the double-double front was Ben Bentil. Bentil finished with 12 points and 10 boards. This was his 2nd career double-double. Those were the only Providence players that scored in double figures on the night. Kyron Cartwright had a solid game with 6 points and 4 assists. Tyler Harris scored all 7 of his points in garbage time but made a few nice plays and possibly gained some confidence in the process.

Providence Friars Overcome Injuries, Foul Trouble & Refs for Road Win at #24 Georgetown

The Providence Friars and (#24) Georgetown Hoyas met at the Verizon Center Wednesday night in Washington DC. Kris Dunn was dealing with a sore back and was routinely being stretched out by a trainer during long timeouts. You wouldn’t have known Dunn’s back was bothering him by the way he played. The soaring sophomore had a big first half and finished the game with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals. Dunn spent more than 6 minutes on the Friar bench in the middle of the second half but LaDontae Henton came alive during that time. Henton was joined by contributions from Ben Bentil, Carson Desrosiers and Junior Lomomba.
