Joey Brackets Releases Updated Bracketology 12/8/15
With nearly a month of college basketball games played to date, Joe Lunardi has released an updated bracketology post on ESPN.com. Joey Brackets had the most Big East teams in the field — 6 — of the preseason bracketology that I profiled just before the season started last month. He also had the Friars as an 11 seed, topped only by Jerry Palm at CBSSports.com who had Providence as a 9 seed. Here is where Lunardi sees Providence and the rest of the Big East as of December 8, 2015.

Week 2 of the Big East Weekly Awards were released on November 23rd and Providence was represented again. Josh Hart (Villanova) was named Player of the Week and Yankuba Sima (St. John’s) was named Freshman of the Week.

Preseason Bracketology All the Rage This Week
After 7 months of “way too early” preseason projections it’s now pretty timely to be making preseason projections — if for no other reason than the preseason ends tonight. This week has seen lots of different publications come out with their preseason bracketology — something that people might argue is still way too early — and there has been a bit of a dichotomy about where Providence stands in regards to the NCAA Tournament following the 2015-16 season. It appears that dichotomy stands between the human based projections and those generated by data and computer programs.

Kenpom’s 2015-16 Preseason Rankings Released
Ken Pomeroy — or Kenpom as he and his website are more commonly known — came out with his preseason rankings for the 2015-16 season on Sunday night. While these rankings aren’t meant to be 100% accurate they do give a decent guideline and perspective on how teams compare within each conference and how the conferences compare to each other. Before I get into the rankings, here is an excerpt from Pomeroy’s blog post October of 2013 after he released the 2013-14 preseason rankings:

Providence to Scrimmage Northeastern Behind Closed Doors
Providence will play Harvard in November this season and it will be the 3rd straight November that has happened. The difference this year is that fans, media and TV cameras are allowed to attend the game since it’s part of the official schedule. Harvard had been a “secret scrimmage” opponent for Cooley’s Friars the prior two seasons and that means the game can’t be publicized, score can’t be kept and media and fans are not allowed to attend. Northeastern takes over Harvard’s role this year and the Huskies will travel to Mullaney Gymnasium on November 7th for this closed door scrimmage, per ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Goodman released his list of all these scrimmages on Thursday. Continue reading Providence to Scrimmage Northeastern Behind Closed Doors
