Awards season in college basketball is just heating up with the regular season less than a week old in the major conferences. The Big East announced their All-League teams on Sunday and some of their individual awards on Monday. The big awards will be announced at 4:30pm ET Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, which is a couple hours before the Big East Tournament tips off. Ben Bentil is Big East’s Most Improved Player, Kris Dunn Repeats as Big East’s Defensive Player of the Year

The Big East announced more postseason awards and honors on Monday and Ben Bentil and Kris Dunn received more recognition a day after being unanimous selections to the Big East First Team on Sunday. Bentil was named the league’s Most Improved Player after leading the Big East in scoring at 21.2 points/game. Dunn repeats as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year after sharing the award with St. John’s Sir’Dominic Pointer last season.

Kris Dunn and Sir’Dominic Pointer Named Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year

The Big East announced their All-Big East teams on Sunday and on Monday the league announced winners of some individual awards. Kris Dunn and Sir’Dominic Pointer will share the title of Defensive Player of the Year after a vote by the coaches ended in a tie.

Dunn was the frontrunner for most of the year for this award as he leads the league in steals but Pointer really came on strong as the season progressed to the point that many media members, including this one, believe Pointer being left off the league’s First Team is a big time snub.

Other awards were announced by the league on Monday. Pointer was named the league’s Most Improved Player which he likely won in a landslide. Villanova’s Josh Hart was given the Sixth Man Award and Butler’s Alex Barlow was given the Sportsmanship Award.
