Big East Tournament Bracket

Now that all the action from Saturday has played out and the tiebreaker scenarios calculated, the final bracket is done for the Big East tournament. The first round games will be Wednesday night and then the top 6 teams get involved on Thursday. I’m really looking forward to getting to the Garden this week and covering these games. With the way these last couple of weeks have been, I have a feeling we are in for some exciting games this week and maybe even a little overtime. Here is the bracket:

Big East Tournament Bracket As of 4pm 3/8/14

big east tournament bracket 3 8 14Right now the seeding is as follows:

1. Villanova

2. Creighton

3. Providence/Xavier

4. Xavier/Providence

5. St. John’s

6. Marquette

7. Georgetown

8. Seton Hall

9. Butler/DePaul

10. DePaul/Butler

Here are the seeding scenarios for those that aren’t locked in:

  • 3/4 seed: If Providence wins tonight at Creighton, they will be the 3 seed playing 6 seed Marquette on Thursday night at 9:30pm and Xavier will be the 4 seed playing 5 seed St. John’s on Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm. If Providence loses tonight at Creighton, Xavier will be the 3 seed playing 6 seed Marquette and Providence will be the 4 seed playing 5 seed St. John’s.
  • 9/10 seed: If Butler loses to Seton Hall today, they would have the same conference record, 3-15, as DePaul but DePaul would be the 9 seed due to a 1-1 record against St. John’s (DePaul and Butler split their own season series 1-1 so tiebreakers goes to record against the highest team. Both teams are 0-2 vs. the top 4 in the league but DePaul is 1-1 against 5 seed St. John’s and Butler is 0-2 against them). If Butler wins today against Seton Hall, they will be the 9 seed by virtue of having 1 more league win than DePaul.
