ESPN has now updated their Top 60 for the class of 2017 for the first time since expanding the list from a Top 25. There are a number of Providence targets littered throughout this Top 60 list and many of them play their high school and prep ball in New England. It will be interesting to see what players in the class of 2017 Providence becomes involved with because of new assistant coach Jeff Battle.

Recruiting News: ESPN Released Post-Summer Top 100 for Class of 2016

With the grassroots season coming to a conclusion at the end of July ESPN has released their updated class of 2016 recruit rankings and there are a number of Providence recruiting targets that are in this latest version of ESPN’s Top 100. It’s no surprise who one of the biggest risers in the rankings is with Wenyen Gabriel jumping 60 spots from 83 to 23. ESPN’s Reggie Rankin also spotlighted Friar recruit JJ Matthews a couple of weeks ago as a player that raised his stock enough to possibly break into the Top 100 after the spring and summer. He apparently was on the cusp but not in the Top 100. Matthews is scheduled to visit Providence on October 3rd, along with River City Reign teammate Maliek White. The Big East also has gotten a solid haul already from the ESPN Top 100 in 2016.

Here are some details from ESPN’s latest Class of 2016 Top 100:

Providence Recruiting Update: Providence Hosts Elite Camp, Makes Pair of List Cuts

Providence hosted their annual Elite Camp on August 8th on the school’s campus and this was the first year I attended. A while back when I decided that I would keep that Saturday open so I could attend the camp this year I had ideas in my head of seeing some of Providence’s star recruits in person. That didn’t exactly come to fruition as there were other competing events — namely the Big Strick Classic in NYC — that thinned out the field for the 2015 version of camp. Still, there was a lot to see and some new names that popped up onto my radar. Other recent recruiting news is that the Friars made the top 5 for JJ Matthews and the top 6 for Quentin Jackson. Both players cut down their lists on Monday. More on Elite Camp and these two recruits below.

Providence Recruiting Update: July Recap, Stock Risers & Wenyen Gabriel

The three live evaluation periods of July are now in the books and the Providence coaching staff logged some heavy frequent flier miles tracking their coveted recruits. Ed Cooley spent much of his time sitting front and center at all Mass Rivals games. Rivals features a number of Providence targets but the grand prize in 2016 is Wenyen Gabriel. Gabriel got the Donovan Mitchell treatment in July. More on that later. Some other Friar prospects took some major steps forward and the influence of newly-hired assistant coach Jeff Battle is becoming more clear as new names are added to Providence’s stable of targets.

Providence Recruiting Guide to the 3rd July 2015 Live Evaluation Period

The final live evaluation period of the summer is upon us and most of the attention turns to Las Vegas as many of Providence’s targets will be lacing it up in Sin City over the next few days. There is also a big AAU National tournament in Louisville taking place and some events happening in New Jersey. The Rivals — read: Wenyen Gabriel — are in Vegas at the adidas Uprising Championships so I would expect Ed Cooley will be all over them at that event.

Providence Recruiting Update: Incoming Transfer, Still Recruiting in ’15, PC in a Top 5 & New Offers, Interest

With the first two live evaluation periods under their belts the Providence coaching staff has managed to add a player for 2016 already. That player is George Mason transfer Isaiah Jackson. They are still looking for a big man that can contribute in 2015-16 and also have continued their dogged pursuit of 2016 top target Wenyen Gabriel, while also handing out new offers and expressing interest in some new players. Finally the Friars made 2016 top-60 point guard Tony Carr‘s final list of 5. All of that in detail below.
