Providence Sophomore Guard Ricky Council II to Transfer

Providence now has their second offseason departure with the news that sophomore guard Ricky Council II will transfer, he announced on his Instagram page. The North Carolina native spent two seasons at Providence with very limited minutes. In 19 career games at Providence, Council averaged 0.9 points/game and 0.5 rebounds/game in 3.5 minutes/game. Council came to Providence after doing a post-graduate year at Moravian Prep and was billed as a shooter and scorer. His best game at Providence was in November of his freshman year when he scored 5 points in 9 minutes in a blowout win over Brown.

Providence’s Season is Over but Recruiting Never Stops

Providence’s season ended a week ago today. That doesn’t mean the Friar coaching staff is sitting back and resting. Providence has two committed players coming to campus for the 2017-18 season in big men Dajour Dickens and Nate Watson. Dickens has been committed since February 2016 and Watson pledged to Cooley in September but don’t be surprised if Providence adds a player in April, May or even June.

With Providence still holding one open scholarship for next season the coaching staff has been actively involved in both the class of 2015 and the transfer market. Recruiting in the classes of 2016 and 2017 has continued as well. Here are some updates on the recruiting front for the Friars.

Providence Contacted Richmond Graduate Transfer Alonzo Nelson-Ododa

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reported on Twitter that Richmond graduate transfer Alonzo Nelson-Ododa has heard from more than 15 schools since announcing his plan to transfer on May 5th. One of the schools mentioned in Borzello’s tweet is Providence. Nelson-Ododa is a 6’9 235 pound power forward. He spent his first year at Richmond sitting out as a redshirt during the 2011-12 season.
