2016 PG Maliek White Down to Four

The recruiting buzz continues to pick up around the Providence program as they are in the midst of stretch hosting visitors. It started last weekend with 2016 wing Jalen Johnson and the Friar staff played double duty this weekend by hosting two recruits. Power forward Kevin Marfo‘s visit was scheduled for this weekend all along, but hosting point guard Maliek White wasn’t supposed to happen until next weekend. The Richmond, VA native decided to cancel his visit to Cincinnati and move up his trip to Friartown, a source familiar with the recruitment told pcbb1917.com on Friday. On Saturday White’s list was cut to a final four, according to the Twitter account of his grassroots program.

2016 Wing Jalen Johnson Enjoys Visit to Providence, Still Planning to Sign in November

As I chronicled heading into this past weekend, the Friar coaching staff is now on the clock for a massively important stretch — 30 days being my nice, neat headline from last week — that ends with their annual Late Night Madness festivities on October 17th. During that span they are scheduled to host a number of recruits in the class of 2016, including top target Wenyen Gabriel. The first visitor to step foot on Providence’s campus during this critical period was 2016 wing forward Jalen Johnson. Johnson is a North Carolina native who attends Wesleyan Christian Academy and ran with Team Wall on the adidas Gauntlet circuit this spring and summer.

Kris Dunn is Blue Ribbon’s Preseason National Player of the Year

Whenever someone asks me if Providence is going to be good this season my answer always involved some form of “they’ll go as far as Kris Dunn can take them.” Dunn is the reigning Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and he is poised to have a monster season — one that is likely to be his final in a Friar uniform. Heading into this campaign there was expected hype around Dunn. He has been named to some preseason All-American teams by various publications and is likely to be the coaches’ pick for preseason Big East Player of the Year at the league’s media day in mid-October. One of the publications that included him on their First Team All-American squad was the famed Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook. On Tuesday their editor-in-chief Chris Dortch announced they would be naming Dunn as their Preseason National Player of the Year when the 35th anniversary edition of Blue Ribbon in a few weeks.

2016 Putnam Science Academy PF Sedee Keita Down to Six

Providence coaches have begun to zero in on their top targets in the class of 2016 over these last few weeks. One of those players that has been given extra attention is 2016 PF Sedee Keita. Keita, who is now enrolled at Putnam Science Academy, has received at least two visits from the Providence staff since the recruiting period began on September 9th. On Monday night Keita cut his list down to a final six, according to Alex Kline. The cut-down list is made up of LSU, Penn State, Providence, South Carolina, Temple, UNLV. Keita confirmed the news via his Twitter account.
