Providence Recruiting Update 5/14/15

With Providence still holding one open scholarship for next season the coaching staff has been actively involved in both the class of 2015 and the transfer market. Recruiting in the classes of 2016 and 2017 has continued as well. Here are some updates on the recruiting front for the Friars.

Providence has 1 open scholarship for the 2015-16 season as it stands right now. Now that Kris Dunn has announced he is coming back it gives Ed Cooley and his staff a better idea of what the 2015-16 roster will look like and how they will play. Ed Cooley Hires Jeff Battle as Assistant Coach

Ed Cooley called upon a close friend to replace former associate head coach Bob Simon by reaching out to Jeff Battle. Simon took the associate head coach position at Alabama under newly hired head coach Avery Johnson on April 19th. Battle was out of coaching this past year after being at Wake Forest for 13 years as the associate head coach for 3 different head coaches. Battle joins associate head coach Andre LaFleur and assistant coach Brian Blaney to make up Cooley’s 3 recruiting assistant coaches. The terms of Battle’s contract with Providence were not released.

2015 Nike EYBL Session 3 Providence Recruiting Guide

Nike EYBL continues with their 3rd session of the regular season on the way to the finals at the Peach Jam. There are a number of Providence recruits playing on the EYBL circuit this year again and even though the coaches won’t be allowed to attend this 3rd session in Houston there will be media members there covering the games and there’s a possibility for some games to be live streamed as well.

There are a few new names since the last recruiting guide and also some names that have fallen off the board with some recent commitments. One other note is Samuel Japhet-Mathias is making his EYBL debut this weekend after having to sit out the first two sessions due to NCAA rules regarding international players being in the USA for less than a year.

Here are the Providence targets in Houston this weekend and when they will be playing. Both the 17U and 16U are in Houston this weekend.
