Kris Dunn on Midseason Wooden Award Watch List

The Wooden Award’s Midseason Watch List was released Wednesday night and Kris Dunn finds himself firmly planted among 24 others on the pared down list. Dunn was on the first release of the Wooden Award Watch List that was put out in mid-November right after the season began and that list included 50 players. This midseason one only has 25. A player not being on the midseason list doesn’t disqualify him from winning the award, however. The Wooden Award — named after legendary UCLA coach John Wooden — is given annually to the nation’s top player. Dunn is the only Big East player to make the midseason watch list for this award.

Butler finds themselves on the 6 line after their rough start to league play and Seton Hall rounds out the Big East contingent as a 10 seed. Marquette has moved up to being in the “Next Four Out” category, so the Big East could potentially match the 6 teams they got into the Big Dance a season ago.

Apparently releasing midseason awards is something that’s happening this week. NBCSports.com released their midseason awards and midseason All-American teams on Wednesday. ESPN’s turn was Thursday. Jeff Goodman put out the ESPN awards and though he didn’t choose Kris Dunn for Midseason Player of the Year like Rob Dauster of NBCSports.com did, he did keep Dunn as a First Team All-American. Goodman also has Ben Bentil jumping into the mix as a Third Team All-American.
