Television Listings for Providence vs (21) Rhode Island 12/3/2016

This 4:30pm tip against in-state rival Rhode Island is Providence’s first of five games that will be on FSN this season. Every other game is on either FOX, FS1, FS2, ESPNU or CBS Sports Network and should be easy for Friar fans to track down on their TV dials.

These are the networks that will be airing the game. Check your local listings to confirm. You can click on any network name with a link for a channel finder based on your zip code and TV provider:

UPDATE: The game IS AVAILABLE via the Fox Sports GO app. You can also check in with FriarTV as he usually always has at least the Rooke/Hassett audio and most of the time has at least one option for the video feed.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Drop First Road Game at Ohio State

This Thoughts from the Road is the first Couch Edition of the season. While nothing replaces being at a game in person, watching on TV definitely gives a different perspective, some good and some bad (looking at you, Seth Davis).

  • In my preview of this game I wrote about how Providence needed to get off to a fast start on the road. That didn’t exactly happen. Neither team showed fluid offense early and there were quite a few whistles, including two early fouls on Emmitt Holt.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Outplayed at Xavier

This Thoughts from the Road: Home Command Center Edition is brought to you by texts from G and is fueled by lots and lots of iced coffee.

  • I’m not going to delve too deeply into stats or recount specific scenarios of the game at Xavier in this edition of Thoughts from the Road. This game was a microcosm of Providence’s Big East season. They’ve gotten off to slow starts in almost every game in league play, they’ve clawed their way back into almost every game in league play — sometimes to success and sometimes to failure — and they have been outhustled far too often.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Drop First Road Game at DePaul

This Thoughts from the Road: Laying in Bed Edition is brought to you by tweets from Dr. Vance Morgan and fueled by lasagna from Louie’s Pizzeria and Restaurant.

  • I was trying to decide if this game was harder to watch than the game at Creighton that Providence won, 50-48, at the buzzer. My conclusion was that the losing nature of the game did make it harder to watch. The in-game reasons that made each game hard to watch were the same: Providence couldn’t hit shots and they couldn’t clean their defensive glass. The overall rebounding disparity was much worse in this DePaul game, but the offensive rebounding numbers were similar. DePaul’s 18 offensive rebounds led to 22 second chance points against Providence’s 9 offensive rebounds leading to 8 second chance points. That 14 point differential was massive. The Friars are now 6-1 on the road this season.

Thoughts from the Road: Friars Shock Wildcats in Snowy Philadelphia

This Thoughts from the Road: Snowed in Philadelphia Edition is brought to you by Katie cooking great meals that included bacon and Ben coining the phrase “Deep Fryahs”. It’s fueled by the wings at McMenamin’s.

  • That was a hell of a Big East battle. The game started slow with the teams combining for a 2/10 shooting start and a 2-2 tie with 16:54 left in the first half. One thing that struck me while watching the teams answer each other and seesaw the lead back and forth over the course of 45 minutes of game action was that the refs didn’t seem to be involved. For me to not even notice Tony Chiazza until the second half is telling. Providence was only whistled for 4 team fouls and Villanova 6 in the first 20 minutes of the game. You read that correctly: neither team got into the bonus in the first half. That’s pretty amazing with the way referees are making themselves household names these days.
