Providence Hockey Raising Money for Teammate Battling Cancer

Many in the Friar community are probably already familiar with the story of Drew Brown, the Providence College hockey player who is fighting a battle against cancer. The short version is the Ewings Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, was discovered in Drew’s leg while he was being evaluated and treated for an injury he suffered during the Hockey East Semifinals on March 21, 2014.

He recently had the tumor removed but continues to undergo chemotherapy and rehab and his teammates are coming together to raise money for the family to help offset medical expenses. Providence’s hockey team has put together a GoFundMe.com page and is calling their November campaign Beards for Brownie. They have raised over $1,300 as of this posting towards their goal of $10,000.

Please spread the word and give if you can. Every bit helps. Friartown is a family.

Dropping Mitts Against Cancer: Drew Brown

If you haven’t already heard, Providence College hockey junior forward Drew Brown has been diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma which is a rare bone cancer. It is the same cancer that former Boston College football player Mark Herzlich had at BC. A gofundme has been set up to assist Drew’s family with any medical bills and travel expenses over these next 8 to 13 months as Drew gets treatment towards beating this cancer. In the 15 hours since this site has been active, 20 people have donated $1,400 towards their goal of $18,000. Please take a moment to visit the site and donate if you can:
