Nike EYBL Peach Jam Games on ESPNU

ESPNU is televising both semifinal games as well as the finals which are all being played today. The first semifinal just concluded with Team Penny defeating Boo Williams 77-68. The second semifinal will begin shortly and will be NJ Playaz against Team SCAN. The winner will take on Team Penny at 3pm in the finals.

NJ Playaz features Isaiah Briscoe who was coached by Ed Cooley on Team USA in June at the FIBA Americas games. Briscoe cut his list shortly after that tournament and that list didn’t include Providence but Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal said “the Friar staff will now spend time working New Jersey guard Isaiah Briscoe.” I don’t know that it has played out that way so far but I would expect PC to have a couple coaches at this game because of Team SCAN with 2015 big man Cheick Diallo and 2016 guards Tyus Battle and Devonte Green.

Recruiting News: Scout.com Updated Class Of 2015 Top 100 Recruit Rankings

Scout.com updated their class of 2015 rankings today and there was even more movement than in the ESPN release of their top 100 earlier in the week.

Rob Harrington discussed some of the PC related movement in this article:

Isaiah Briscoe moved up 10 spots, from No. 26 to No. 16. Briscoe has performed tremendously at every stop this spring and summer, showcasing a leaner body, quicker first step and more controlled (but not too controlled) style. He ranks among the most talented, confident and aggressive scorers in the class.

Antonio Blakeney (pictured, above) vaulted from No. 39 all the way to No. 20. He has emerged as one of the most prolific shooters and scorers in the EYBL and now projects as a potential, or even likely, McDonald’s All-American.

When Malik Beasley is in the house, people tend to notice. Beasley is one of the country’s most explosive leapers and also is a capable, if streaky, jump shooter. He had been unranked but now sits at No. 58. If he can tighten his ballhandling, he’s another prospect who could make another big jump later.

And then there’s another spring wonder, Steve Enoch. The athletic and skilled power forward from Connecticut debuts in our rankings at No. 61 and may be able to rise from there. He has proved he can hold his own against other national-caliber big men and now simply needs more exposure to solidify his place. His recruitment likely will blow up in July.

Providence Recruits at Pangos All American Camp

Ed Cooley and his staff have worked extremely hard and are involved with the most highly ranked players that I can ever remember at one time. The AAU circuit is slowing down a bit for the next few weekends and individual camps will take the forefront. This weekend is the Pangos All American Camp in California which has featured some big names over the years including two current PC players – Kris Dunn and Jalen Lindsey. As of yesterday’s posting of the weekly recruiting update I didn’t have the roster for this invitation only camp but it came out late last night. Here are the Providence recruits who are there this weekend:

Class of 2015

  • Justin Jenifer – 5’10 PG – Milford Mill Academy (Baltimore, MD)
  • Isaiah Briscoe – 6’3 SG – Roselle Catholic (Roselle, NJ)
  • Malik Beasley – 6’4 SG – St. Francis (Alpharetta, GA)
  • Bennie Boatwright – 6’8 SF – Village Christian (Sun Valley, CA)
  • Kaiser Gates – 6’8 – SF – St. Francis (Norcross, GA)
  • Steve Enoch – 6’10 PF – Norwalk HS (Norwalk, CT)

This year’s Top 50 and Top 25 Games will be televised live on CBS Sports Network on Sunday June 1st from Long Beach City College with the Top 50 game being at 3pm and the Top 25 game at 4:15pm.
