Isaiah Whaley doesn’t remember exactly when Jeff Battle began recruiting him “but he has been recruiting me for awhile,” Whaley told pcbb1917.com this week. Whaley is a 6’9 power forward who hails from Battle’s former home state of North Carolina. Whaley transferred to Evelyn Mack Academy about a month ago following an arrest for petty larceny. The details of that minor run-in with the law can be found here for those interested. Providence is clearly interested in the lanky Whaley and they have a big need in their frontcourt.

Providence Recruiting Update: Friars Showing Interest in Hargrave Big Bennett, Working Hard for Hicks
It’s Day 7,302 of the search for a big man in Providence — at least it feels like its been going on that long. The first game of the basketball season is 10 days away for the Friars but the recruiting season is what is still dominating the discussion among Friar fans. Sedee Keita committed to South Carolina on Tuesday and a day later Nik Popovic pledged to Boston College after returning from a visit to Chestnut Hill over the weekend. There continue to be new names popping up in this recruiting effort and the new guy this week is Iran Bennett.

Providence Recruiting Update: Big Man Search Going South
When I last posted a recruiting update 7 days ago it was on the heels of Providence hosting their annual Late Night Madness festivities. The Friars had top big man target Sedee Keita in town for his official visit that weekend and made their big push to get the Delaware native to commit before leaving campus. That big push didn’t yield a commitment and soon after Keita left Friartown a bevy of new names emerged with Providence interest or offers. The spigot of new names is still open. Adam Finkelstein reported on Tuesday that Keita has transferred back down to 22ft Academy — the South Carolina school he attended last year prior to coming back to New England at Putnam Science Academy.

Friartown Fan Voice Podcast – Episode 2 – 10/23/15
Episode 2 of the pcbb1917.com Friartown Fan Voice podcast is live. In this episode I touch on some of the remaining 2016 big man names on the recruiting front, go over the results of the Big East Media Day awards and preseason coaches’ poll, touch on the upcoming season and finish with some questions from you, the fans.
This should be available in iTunes so keep an eye out for that so you can subscribe and be automatically notified when a new episode is uploaded. I’m planning on doing one more preseason podcast the week right before the first game against Harvard and will give an in-depth preview of the non-conference schedule.
