With the first two live evaluation periods under their belts the Providence coaching staff has managed to add a player for 2016 already. That player is George Mason transfer Isaiah Jackson. They are still looking for a big man that can contribute in 2015-16 and also have continued their dogged pursuit of 2016 top target Wenyen Gabriel, while also handing out new offers and expressing interest in some new players. Finally the Friars made 2016 top-60 point guard Tony Carr‘s final list of 5. All of that in detail below.

Recruiting News: Scout.com Releases Class Of 2017 Top 75 Recruit Rankings
Scout.com has expanded their class of 2017 rankings from a top 50 to a top 75. The class of 2017 has a ton of talent and Providence is already involved with 10 of the 75 players on Scout’s rankings.

Providence Recruiting Update: Class of 2017 Phones Ringing
June 15th at 12:00am marks the first time that coaches can directly contact members of the class of 2017 — rising high school juniors. Ed Cooley is in Colorado Springs for the USA Basketball U19 training camp but he and his staff still managed to work the phones and reach out to a number of prospects. The Friars have a commitment in the class of 2017 already with Javon Taylor verbally pledging to Cooley at Providence’s elite camp in August of 2014. With Taylor on the books Providence currently has 2 open scholarships for the class of 2017 that number is likely to change with the transfer epidemic that is happening around college basketball.

Providence Bolsters Frontcourt with Commitment from 2015 Quadree Smith
The Providence front court certainly has gotten bigger, even if it isn’t much taller. 6’8 250 pound Quadree Smith visited Friartown over the weekend and gave a commitment to Ed Cooley on Wednesday. The commitment was delayed while the Friar compliance staff combed through Smith’s transcript, per a source with knowledge of the situation. Originally a member of the class of 2014, Smith did a post graduate year at IMG Academy in Florida this past year after graduating from his local public school, Potomac. The Maryland native had committed to UNC-Greensboro in November of 2013 but never signed a National Letter of Intent. He decommitted in January 2014. Associate head coach Andre LaFleur is the Providence coach that made first contact with Smith.

Recruiting News: ESPN Released Top 60 for Class of 2017
After expanding the class of 2016 top 60 to a top 100 on Tuesday, ESPN expanded their class of 2017 top 25 to a top 60 on Wednesday. The debut of the class of 2018 top 25 is scheduled to be released on Thursday.
Providence currently has 2 open scholarships to use in the class of 2017, barring a commitment from a big man prior to the start of next season. It is also highly likely that Kris Dunn’s scholarship will open up after this season as he is almost guaranteed to leave for the NBA. 2015 John Carlos Reyes Schedules Visit to Providence
Providence is in need of big bodies in their frontcourt that can contribute right away in 2015-16. They have been actively scouring the graduate transfer market with little success. They have also been keeping an ear to the ground about anyone left in the class of 2015 that can help. Enter John Carlos Reyes, or JC as he likes to be called.
