2016 Big Man Dylan Painter Cuts List to 7, Providence Out

While one member of Team Final — Tony Carr — that had Providence in his final 5 schools committed elsewhere on Monday afternoon, Dylan Painter cut his list to a final 7 and did not include the Friars. The 6’10 big man from Hershey, PA cut his list down on Monday night to 7 and Providence made the cut, along with George Washington, NC State, Penn State, St. Joseph’s, URI, Villanova and Xavier. Painter was officially offered by the Friars on July 10th during the 1st live evaluation period of the month. His most recent offer could be a tough team to beat in Villanova. Recruiting News: ESPN Released Updated Top 100 for Class of 2016

ESPN updated their class of 2016 rankings on Tuesday with a fresh top 100, which is an expansion from the previous top 60 for the class. They plan to release the expanded class of 2017 top 60 on Wednesday and debut the class of 2018 top 25 on Thursday. Scout.com just released their updated 2016 top 100 on Friday last week.

Providence currently has 2 open scholarships to use in the class of 2016, barring a commitment from a big man prior to the start of next season. It is also highly likely that Kris Dunn’s scholarship will open up after this season as he is almost guaranteed to leave for the NBA. Let’s take a look at where some of Providence’s 2016 targets fell on ESPN’s Top 100:

2015 Nike EYBL Session 4 Providence Recruiting Guide

Nike EYBL finishes pool play this weekend in Minneapolis. This is the 4th and final session of the regular season before the playoffs begin at the Peach Jam which is held in North Augusta, SC from July 15th to the 19th. 24 teams will advance to the Peach Jam after this weekend in Minneapolis and some of the teams led by Providence recruits are in good position to do so. This is the second straight session of EYBL where coaches are not allowed to attend as the event takes place during a dead period that runs from May 21st through May 29th.

Here are the Providence targets in Minneapolis this weekend and when they will be playing. The 16U teams are in Atlanta this weekend. You’ll notice the record next to each team and that is the record entering play this weekend. The number next to each player’s name is in case that team plays on one of the live-streamed courts. Deep Breaths, Friartown: Paschal Chukwu Transfer Edition

That news stunned me. I have to admit I didn’t expect to hear that Paschal Chukwu would leave Providence for anywhere but the NBA. I know there are a lot of people searching for answers and/or trying to make sense out of the decision made by the 7’2 Chukwu. The reality is, like Josh Fortune’s transfer decision a year ago (almost to the day), this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense on it’s face. I’m sure there will be some rumblings and rumors that are shared in the days to come but for Chukwu to walk away from a starting role on a team with Kris Dunn is hard to fathom. Let’s all take some deep breaths and try to figure out what might happen next.
