Kris Dunn, Jalen Lindsey Could Miss Yale and Kentucky Games

During his radio show last night hosted by John Rooke at Whiskey Republic in Providence, Ed Cooley indicated that both redshirt sophomore Kris Dunn and freshman Jalen Lindsey were on crutches Monday following ankle injuries suffered during the team’s win over Notre Dame on Sunday at Mohegan Sun. Cooley also told the listeners that Dunn and Lindsey would have MRI’s and X-Rays done Tuesday morning to see the extent of the injuries.

Cooley had media availability Tuesday afternoon prior to the team’s practice and he gave an update on each player and the news is not good. The Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara is reporting that Cooley indicated each player’s injury is severe enough that they both may miss the next two games which are at home against Yale Friday and at Rupp Arena against Kentucky Sunday.

Providence Jumps into the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25, Receives Votes in AP Poll

Following an impressive 5-0 start to the season that concluded with two wins over ACC foes Florida State and Notre Dame at Mohegan Sun over the weekend the Providence Friars have jumped into the 25th spot of the USA Today Coaches Poll for Week 3 of the college basketball season. The Friars had not been receiving votes in any prior USA Today Coaches Polls so this is an impressive accomplishment.

The AP poll came out a few minutes after the USA Today Coaches Poll Monday afternoon and Providence received 63 votes in that poll but that was not enough to crack the top 25. Arkansas is the 25th team in the AP poll and they received 129 votes. Providence is behind Oklahoma (109 votes) and Stanford (80 votes) just outside the top 25. Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal slotted Providence 23rd in his AP poll vote for this week.

The 25th ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll is the first time Providence has been ranked in any poll since the 2003-04 season when the Friars finished the year 21st in the AP poll and 19th in the Coaches Poll.
