Providence Recruiting Update: Time to Turn Attention to 2016

With NC State forward transfer Kyle Washington committing to Mick Cronin and the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday its time for the Friar staff to turn their attention to the class of 2016 and beyond. The likelihood that there is still a player available that could contribute next season is almost nonexistent. The only scenario out there right now is probably a darkhorse international player but that is in the “massive longshot” category.

The first July live evaluation period is rapidly approaching and the Providence staff needs to be focused on players from the class of 2016 with an eye towards players in 2017. Some Big East compatriots have already gotten off to good starts in 2016 with Butler landing a pair of 4 star recruits in Joey Brunk and Howard Washington, Villanova picking up consensus top 20 recruit Omari Spellman and Xavier dipping into the New England Prep ranks to grab top 125 forward Tyrique Jones.

There was a recent miss in the class of 2015, news on the transfer wire, new offers being handed out and new interest being expressed.

Providence is in need of big bodies in their frontcourt that can contribute right away in 2015-16. They have been actively scouring the graduate transfer market with little success. They have also been keeping an ear to the ground about anyone left in the class of 2015 that can help. Enter John Carlos Reyes, or JC as he likes to be called.

Providence Recruiting Update: Any Big Men Out There?

Any big men out there?

That’s a question that is on the mind of many Providence fans. The coaching staff is trying to zero in on someone to replace the minutes Paschal Chukwu was going to get before he surprisingly announced his intention to transfer on May 18th. That late date has put Ed Cooley and his staff in a bind as it doesn’t give them a great deal of time to try to build a relationship with a quality player who can contribute from day 1.
