Providence Recruiting Update: ESPN Released Their Class of 2018 Top 60

After releasing their updated Top 100 for the Class of 2017 on Wednesday, ESPN dropped their Top 60 for the Class of 2018 on Thursday. The Friars have already been recruiting the Class of 2018 in earnest with first direct contact for these rising juniors occurring on June 15th. With the current roster construction and scholarship situation, Ed Cooley and his staff have 5 open scholarships for the 2018-19 season. However that doesn’t account for the potential for Providence to add at least one more player to their 2017 recruiting class. Here are the Providence recruits that made ESPN’s Top 60 in the Class of 2018:

Providence Recruiting Guide to the First July 2016 Live Evaluation Period

The first July live evaluation period has arrived and the Providence coaching staff will be out and about stalking down talented future Friars all across the country over the next few days. A live evaluation period means college coaches are allowed to attend and evaluate recruits at certified events. This particular evaluation period begins on July 6th at 5pm and is active through 5pm on July 10th. Nike has their EYBL Peach Jam, which is their playoffs and adidas finishes off their Gaunlet series. Under Armour’s finale event is later in July so they will be hosting their All-America Camp this week in Charlotte.

Recruiting News: ESPN Releases Class Of 2018 Top 60 Recruit Rankings

ESPN updated their Top 100 for the Class of 2017 on Tuesday and on Wednesday they dropped their first release of their Top 60 for the Class of 2018. Though these kids still have two full years of high school left after this year, Providence has been actively recruiting some of the players on ESPN’s list.

Providence Recruiting Guide to the First April 2016 Live Evaluation Period

This weekend kicks off the real recruiting season for members of the class of 2017 and beyond because starting on April 15th a live evaluation period officially begins. A live evaluation period means college coaches are allowed to attend and evaluate recruits at certified events. This particular evaluation period lasts through April 17th with another full weekend of live evaluating on the schedule beginning on April 22nd. Nike and Under Armour will kick off their grassroots leagues in NYC, while adidas gets started in Dallas this weekend. There are also some other events going on this weekend that Providence recruits will be playing in.

As I traditionally do each spring and summer, I’ll be providing a guide for fans to follow along and see where Providence’s targets are playing during a given live evaluation period. Recruiting News: Rivals Releases Class Of 2018 Top 75 Recruit Rankings

Rivals released a Top 75 for the Class of 2018 on Friday and Providence has some of their targets on the list for this class that is made up of current high school sophomores. The list also includes some local New England prep products.

Recruiting Update: Big Man Search Goes North of the Border, ESPN Player Rankings Updated & More

Recruiting never stops and Providence continues to scowl the landscape for a big man to add to the class of 2016 that currently only includes point guard Maliek White. There are certainly some names that have become well-known to Providence fans over the last few months like Darius Hicks, Levi Cook, Isaiah Whaley and others. But some new ones also surfaced recently. A Friar coach was also spotted at a NEPSAC game on Wednesday. Shifting gears to future classes, ESPN released their updated player rankings for the classes of 2017 and 2018 and there are some notable Friar recruits scattered among the lists. The Friars also extended an offer to a player in the class of 2018 over the weekend after various Friar coaches attended the talent-heavy Hoophall Classic that took place at Springfield College from January 14th-18th.

Several Providence Recruits Among 57 Invited to USA Basketball Junior National Team Minicamp

USA Basketball has become a big part of Providence’s basketball program because head coach Ed Cooley has taken on growing responsibilities with the organization over the last few years. In the summer of 2013 Cooley was a court coach during training camp in Colorado Springs. In 2014 Cooley was named as an assistant coach on Billy Donovan’s staff for the U18 USA National Team that participated and won gold at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. After Donovan took the head coaching job with the Oklahoma City Thunder Cooley’s fellow assistant on Donovan’s U18 staff Sean Miller was promoted to head coach of the U19 team and Cooley remained as Miller’s assistant for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship. That squad also brought home the gold from Crete, Greece.
