With the NCAA Selection Sunday show airing Sunday beginning at 6pm on CBS it’s all about who, what and where for Friar fans. Who will Providence play? What will their seed be? Where will the game be played? Providence will host a viewing party open to the public at Alumni Hall on their campus Sunday with doors opening at 5:30pm. In the meantime, let me know your thoughts on where Providence should be seeded for the NCAA Tournament (note I’m using 4-8 because that’s the range on BracketMatrix.com right now:

Thoughts from the Road: Providence Comes Up Short in the Semi’s
This thoughts from the road is me cheating a little. I’m writing this from the press room in Madison Square Garden. The brownies are so good, can you blame me?
- Ed Cooley took the high road after the game when he responded to a question asking for his thoughts on the foul call at the end of the game.
“The last play of the game was a 50-50 call. I think we have the best officials in the country. I think the Big East has always had the best officials in the country. It doesn’t come down to one play. I’m pretty sure everybody’s going to ask me about that. At the end of the day, we have the best officials in the country. It was a 50-50 call. It can go either way. It just didn’t go our way tonight.”

Providence Resume Review 2/27/15
Providence appears to be safely on their way to a repeat trip to the Blue Carpet for the first time since they appeared in the 1989 and 1990 NCAA Tournament fields. They lost their first game in both of those years. That’s something Ed Cooley and this crew will be looking to change this year. I’ll be doing regular examinations of Providence’s NCAA Tournament resume as the regular season winds down.
This week I’ll also be doing some blind resumes to compare to Providence because that always seems fun. Let’s get started.
Measuring Carson Desrosiers’ Value
Until Tuesday night’s blowout loss at Villanova, Carson Desrosiers had started every single Providence College basketball game this season, his final in a Friar uniform. The 5th year senior 7-footer missed that Villanova loss due a knee injury suffered during Providence’s blowout win at DePaul on February 18th. At the time the injury didn’t look all that serious as Desrosiers ended up returning to action later in that same game.
Four days later – and two days prior to the Villanova game – would be the first inkling of an issue when Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal reported on his Twitter account that Desrosiers knee was bothering him and his “status for [the] Villanova game [is] unclear.” Desrosiers missed the game, Providence got smoked on Villanova’s Senior Night and the latest news from Ed Cooley is that Desrosiers still hasn’t returned to practice as of Thursday. That news was first reported by Brendan McGair of the Woonsocket Call.
