Weekly College Basketball Polls Update: February 1st
Week 13 of the college basketball polls have been released and Providence has fallen out of the top 10 after a 1-1 week that included a home loss to Xavier and a road win at Georgetown . The Friars are now 6-3 in Big East play and they will travel to Chicago for a Tuesday night tilt against DePaul before returning home to take on Villanova on Saturday. This is the first time Providence has been ranked in the AP Poll for 10 straight weeks since the 1977-78 season when the Friars spent the final 13 weeks ranked in the AP Top 25. The Friars moved from 10th to 11th in the AP Poll and from 10th to 11th in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll this week.

Providence’s Game at Villanova Had Record Audience for Fox Sports
Providence’s win on January 24th at the Well Fargo Center in snowy Philadelphia against a Villanova team that had won it’s previous 22 Big East conference games was great for the Friars. It was a win against a top 5 ranked team nationally. It was a road win. It was a conference win. Fox Sports also announced today that it was a ratings win. Former Friar Bryce Cotton Heading to China, Will Reportedly Sign with Xinjiang
Less than two weeks after re-joining the Austin Spurs of the NBA D-League, Bryce Cotton is reportedly heading overseas to China. The news of Cotton going overseas was first reported by Dennis Silva of the Monitor News. A subsequent report comes via Chris Reichert of Upside & Motor, a D-League blog. Reichert is the one who has indicated a source informed him that Cotton will take his talents to China and will sign with Xinjiang of the Chinese Basketball Association. Another former Friar Marshon Brooks is currently second in scoring (34.6 points/game) playing with Jiangsu and the CBA is where God Shammgod was playing prior to returning to Providence to complete his undergraduate degree. A 2013 article by OneWorldSports.com list Shammgod among the top 5 imports in CBA history.

Weekly College Basketball Polls Update: January 25th
Week 12 of the college basketball polls have been released and Providence is moving on up after a 2-0 week that included a home win over a top 20 team and a road win against a top 5 team. Not bad for a week’s work. The Friars are now 5-2 in Big East play and they will host Xavier on Tuesday night before traveling to Washington DC to take on Georgetown at the Verizon Center on Saturday. This is the first time Providence has been ranked in the AP Poll for 9 straight weeks since the 1977-78 season when the Friars spent the final 13 weeks ranked in the AP Top 25. The Friars moved from 16th to 10th in the AP Poll and from 17th to 10th in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll this week. Providence’s 7 slot jump in the Coaches’ Poll was the largest move up of any team in this week’s poll.
