Kris Dunn Officially Announces Return to Providence

Well it was a tense few days for Providence fans between the initial report from Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday and an official announcement from Kris Dunn but the good news Friar fans were hoping for has now become a done deal. Dunn will officially return to Friartown for at least one more season. While it is unlikely that Dunn would remain at Providence beyond the 2015-16 season he does technically have eligibility through the 2016-17 season due to his medical redshirt being granted.

Report: Fordham Transfer Eric Paschall Expected to Commit to Villanova

So much for taking that Providence visit. Fordham transfer Eric Paschall is expected to announce a commitment to Villanova on Friday, per a report by Adam Zagoria. Paschall got permission to contact school following the firing of Fordham coach Tom Pecora. Since that time Paschall and his father Juan have visited Villanova and Florida and the elder Paschall told me no decision would be made until they visited Providence. Apparently something changed on that front. Bob Simon going to Alabama may have played a role but I’ve been told that Cooley also has a good connection with the Paschall’s, so it was a little puzzling to me that a visit never happened.

Paschall was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in his only season at Fordham and will have to sit out the 2015-16 season at Villanova, per NCAA transfer rules. He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining with the Wildcats and will only turn 19 this November. This is a very good pickup for Jay Wright and the year off should allow Paschall to develop him body and game to get ready for the jump up to the Big East in 2016-17.

Report: Kris Dunn Will Return to Providence for Junior Season

The news that Providence fans have been waiting for since their season ended in Columbus, OH on March 20th has broken. Kris Dunn will return to Providence for his junior season instead of entering the 2015 NBA Draft, according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowki. The 21-year old Dunn has two years of eligibility remaining due to a medical redshirt granted for the 2013-14 season when Dunn played in just 4 games. Dunn was being projected as high as 13 by DraftExpress.com and 10th by Sam Vecenie of CBSSports.com. A formal announcement is expected soon, per Wojnarowski. A good place for that formal announcement may be the team’s end of season banquet on Saturday at the Omni Hotel in Providence.

LaDontae Henton, Kris Dunn Honorable Mention All-Americans

The AP released their All-American teams on Monday. Not a single player from the Big East conference was named to the 3 All-American teams. Kris Dunn and LaDontae Henton were named Honorable Mention All-Americans, along with Villanova’s Ryan Arcidiacono and Darrun Hilliard.

Tyler Harris Won’t Return to Providence Next Season

Providence redshirt junior Tyler Harris will receive his bachelor’s degree in Sociology on May 17th at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and that will be the final time Harris’ name is called over the PA system at the Dunk. The academic senior will take his degree and move on from Providence, the school announced Tuesday. Harris has one final year of eligibility at his disposal. It isn’t clear at this time if Harris intends to use that eligibility or if he is leaving Providence to explore professional opportunities. It sounds like Harris will explore transfer opportunities and if the right one isn’t available he will head overseas.

Providence Prepares for Dayton, Meets with the Media

Providence arrived in Columbus on Wednesday and were greeted by some Friar fans at the team hotel. After settling in the team watched the Dayton/Boise State game together in their film room at the hotel and “watch[ed] with an open mind” according to Carson Desrosiers. The team practiced Thursday morning with an eye on Dayton for the first time and LaDontae Henton, Kris Dunn, Tyler Harris, Carson Desrosiers and Ed Cooley met with the media Thursday afternoon around 5pm followed by another team practice.

Here are some of the highlights from that media session:
