Boxscore

With Ben Bentil and Paschal Chukwu having visa/clearinghouse issues and not making the trip and Jalen Lindsey being home in Tennessee with mononucleosis, the only member of the highly touted incoming freshman class that will compete in Italy is point guard Kyron Cartwright. Cartwright figures to play heavy minutes as the staff is being extremely cautious by not playing Kris Dunn as he continues to recover from his second shoulder surgery in 13 months. Aside from basketball there are a ton of cultural and education experiences planned. A good outline of those was done by Danny James over at CoxHub. You can find that by click this link.

If you are looking for updates on Twitter, the hashtag #CiaoFriars will be used heavily by CoxHub. The standard #pcbb will still be used as well so you can keep an eye on both. One emerging one so far has also been #pcbbDoesItaly so check that one too.

The group flew out of Newark, NJ August 12th just before 6pm EDT after practicing near the airport. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein took in the practice and had the following to say on Twitter:

Alex Owens Announces Commitment

Alex Owens becomes the second player in the class of 2015 to commit to Ed Cooley. Owens spent the weekend on campus and attended the Elite Camp on Saturday. He flew home Monday afternoon but not before announcing his commitment via Twitter:

Owens announced his top 3 schools on July 27th and Providence is the only visit he took since making that announcement. The other schools he was considering were Missouri and Central Florida. He had previously verbally committed to UCF in the fall of 2013. Owens adds another big body to the Friar frontcourt and currently joins PC’s other commit in the class of 2015 Ryan Fazekas.

The next step for Providence is to add a guard or two to the mix in this class and they will have 3 scholarships to do so. Don’t be surprised if they pocket one of those scholarships to try to find a transfer in the winter or spring.

Happy Birthday Bryce Cotton!

It’s probably been a bit of a whirlwind for Bryce Cotton since he graduated from Providence College in mid-May. Since then he has traveled all across the country working out for NBA teams, signed a contract with the San Antonio Spurs, played in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and, most recently, got married!

Today Bryce Cotton turns 22 so I’m sending my birthday wishes to Mr. Cotton and I hope that 22 is an even better year than 21!

2017 Guard Javon Taylor Verbally Commits to Friars

Ed Cooley and the Friar faithful certainly needed a commitment to get the bad taste out of their mouths after Donovan Mitchell pledged to the Louisville Cardinals. I’m sure everyone was thinking the next commit would be from a player in the class of 2015. Instead, class of 2017 member Javon Taylor gave Cooley his verbal commitment after the Elite Camp held on campus on Saturday.

The Friars are hoping there will be another commitment before the weekend ends with 2015 big man Alex Owens on campus.
